Samsung's retaliation plans against Apple were revealed earlier today by The Korea Times. According to the Korean publication, Samsung "confirmed that it will immediately sue Apple if the latter releases products using advanced long-term evolution (LTE) mobile technology". Apple has already released an LTE ready tablet with their newest iPad, but it appears that Samsung is waiting until Apple releases an LTE iPhone before seeking injunction using their vast LTE patent portfolio. Earlier this year, research firm iRunway reported that Samsung held 10% of LTE patents issued, which gives them a fighting chance. As always we will keep you updated, but until then let us know what you think in the forums.

I'm pretty certain that Qualcomm is the leader in LTE patents and samsung supposedly owns 10+% of the essential LTE patents

that would be epic!!

Every person who buys an iPhone will be putting money in Sammy's pockets

Could they actually manage a ban on the iPhone? if so would it be immediate or would Apple be able to release it first?

they kinda already do that, IIRC Samsung manufactures the screens that apple uses on their devices, iphones and ipads.

I would love to see these huge companies start to fire back at apple with just about any and every patent that they can get their hands on. Once the absurdity of all of these patent lawsuits is really out in the open can we start to discuss how to fix this horribly broken system.

They should just give Apple the middle finger and tell them to go get their glass somewhere else....they never will of course

I agree, it would be great to see everyone else start dumping lawsuits into Apple's lap.

Samsung shall win. So iphone 5 might be delayed. Lol so apple really played the card last turn now its Samsung turn

Um..can Samsung do that?
I mean, LTE is the upcoming standard.
It would be a bold move from Samsung but I am hoping Samsung is choosing the right battles here.
If they do this, they best come correct vs their representation in the Apple vs Samsung trial cause their trial lawyers were...well, a lil lost.
Most curious.

Rectangular devices with rounded corners are pretty much "standard."

Rectangular devices that are thicker at one end than the other are pretty much "standard."

That didn't stop Apple from suing.

Is it any more standard than a flat rectangular shaped object with rounded corners? :p

What about all of the other oems that produce LTE capable phones? I guess Samsung won't sue them because they aren't already in a litigation war with them. But suppose Samsung does sue Apple and wins. Would they use that precedent against Moto, HTC, LG, etc. at some point?

This web is getting much more tangled in a hurry. Time for all of these corporate behemoths to call a truce. Ain't gonna happen though.

Valid point.

I dont think they will. Moto, HTC, LG..etc arent being little babies about everything. If Samsung does some how manage to take down the iPhone it will be unreal. I would wager that if Sammy files suit and wins they will use it as a bartering chip with Apple to get them to drop their suit and give them back there 30 billion nickels (that was hilarious)
