Even though the newer version of Jelly Bean on Nexus devices includes a panoramic PhotoSphere feature, apparently Samsung wants to see if they can do better. According to a new report, Sammy is working on their own version of the camera app, and theirs is called S Orb. Additional details indicate their version will first debut on the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Earlier speculation was that it might make it to the SGS4 first, but that didn't pan out.

The current intel suggests it will come out on some previously launched Galaxy devices, like the SGS4, but only after it releases on the GNote3. Supposedly, Samsung has been working hard at it, but they want to wait until Android 5.0/Key Lime Pie is launched by Google before adding their version of this software to the Android ecosystem. Here's a quote with the details,

The S Orb is Samsung’s name for the Photo Sphere feature that was introduced in October, synchronized with the debut of Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Photo Sphere, which is currently available on the Nexus family of devices, allows the users to take 360 degree panorama photos by snapping pictures in every direction, merge them into a Street View-like capture, then post them to Google Plus. The S Orb on the Galaxy Note 3 will work in a similar way, but the software engineer working in the S Orb team, said to us that the South Korea-based company is working closely with the world’s most popular social network in order to integrate Facebook sharing on the S Orb.

The even better news is that the S Orb will also arrive on other high-end Samsung smartphones, soon after the Galaxy Note 3 will hit the market. The Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie software update that will roll out post Galaxy Note 3 launch, will bring the S Orb camera feature and other Note 3-specific features on the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2.

We will keep you apprised as more details emerge.

Thanks for the tip, Astrix!

Sounds great if they can get the issues ironed out. I think photo sphere would work great if you didn't have to be so specific on how you hold the phone. If you happen to take a step out of sorts when snapping the photo, you get an artifact in the image. You almost have to connect the phone to a tripod so the camera is always at the same distance from the center point so it takes properly. Doing it by standing and just moving your body makes too many artifacts.

Sorry but touch whiz blows, it is nothing but a lag fest, once you root and unlock your phone and run some custom ROM, you will have no idea how horrible all these manufacturer skins are, at the moment I am running liquid smooth 4.2.2 ROM, my phone feels like it has come out of a thick fog, the touch whiz stutter is gone, as are the additional 140 plus bloat apps that are baked in by Samsung and Verizon.
