SBF to root and to unroot

I rooted my X from Stock 2.2 with the Droid2 root method (doroot) but it made my phone all laggy and now it freezes up all the time. What is the procedure for unrooting back to Stock 2.2?

I did not install any other Roms or themes. Thank you!

The sbf files in this thread are for the d1. You don't want to mix up sbf files and get the wrong one on your phone. This DX hack thread should help:

Hmmm, maybe edit the OP here to specify it's only for the A855?

My .02 worth.

To be doubly sure, check the SD card afterward and format it, but I'm pretty sure it does that already.

Just an FYI, flashing a .sbf file DOES wipe out and reinstall everything on the phone from the bootloader, radio baseband, recovery, system, and up to personal data. It does NOTHING whatsoever to the sdcard.

Thank you. That is what I was hoping. I knew the SDCard would not be touched. Very little actually affects it.

My .02 worth.

A few phones have been released since this guide was written.
OP adjusted, thanks for the good idea!

Here ya go!

FRG22_update.zip Problem

I used option 6 with the FRG22_update.zip to update my stock rooted droid to 2.2 unrooted, and now I'm stuck with no recovery and no working OS (screen stays on startup). How can I flash a recovery onto a phone with nothing working so I can at least get back to some position where my OS is working?

I am experienced enough in rooting but I have never encountered an issue like this before.

I just realized what I did. I didn't wipe cache/partition and then factory data reset before applying the update.zip. Unfortunately, how do I now flash any recovery so that I can do this?

:welcome: to the forum! Sorry it's over such bad news.

First, can you get into the bootloader? Second, when you try to boot into recovery it just hangs on the M, right? Just trying to make sure we're on the same page.

Thank you for your speedy response!

In answer to your first question, no. When I try to get into the bootloader, it shows me the screen with the little green android and the exclamation point. Secondly, my phone doesn't hang on the M. It makes it to the droid screen, then just keeps repeating the little animation.

How long are you waiting at the boot animation? When making changes to the phone like this, it can take a LONG time to boot. The phone have to rewrite the Dalvik cache. Depending on the apps you have installed, it could take upwards of 15 min to boot.

I've had this happen before a while ago when I tried to install a rom and didn't know to factory reset the phone, but at least then I had a recovery to boot into. The animation doesn't just keep going. It keeps restarting itself, going from the eye back to the Droid, and it doesn't ever stop.

FYI, when you boot to the screen with the little android and the exclamation point in the triangle, that is the recovery menu, not bootloader.

So, boot into recovery by powering off the phone, slide out the keyboard and hold down the 'x' button and power it back on until you see the screen described above. Then hold the volume up and camera buttons at the same time to get to the actual menu. Using your d-pad on the slide out keyboard, navigate to "factory data reset" and then press the center d-pad button. Should get you fixed right up.

good luck

At this point are you willing to lose all data on the internal phone and just get it back to working? Since I do not know exactly what is causing it, the easiest thing to do is flash the phone back to a working stock OS.

Do you have the Motorola drivers installed?
Do you have RSDLite installed?

Your delema inspired me to final post something I was working on. If all else fails and you just want to get it working....

The link will take you to a thread I started. It was intended to get opinions on an automated scripting program to perform as many actions for you as possible. I wrote a similar script for my ex and it worked beautifully. This is a modified version of that one. If you use it, PLEASE let me know how it goes and leave me some feedback on that thread.

It will flash the stock, unrooted FRG22D to your pphone and remove ALL extra data from the internal memory.

Worked like a charm! Thanks a bunch.

Glad chersh got it all working, thanks Teddy!

Shibbey, at this point he just finished erasing everything on his phone to get the point where he was. One more factory reset wouldn't result in the loss of any more personal data as it all was gone already.
