Screen freezes when i open slider...HELP!!!!

Don't know if anyone can help me or not but i'm new to the whole rooting scene and have done a ton of reasearch before attempting to root my droid. The first rom i decided to try was the simply stunning 3.1 and ever since then, every time i open my slider to input text the phone freezes on whatecer screen it's on and the phone refuses to function at all. No buttons respond(except dimming the backlight). If i press the back or home keys about 5 or 6 times, the phone will vibrate and thats it. The only way for me to fix this problem is to battery pull. The first time i tried the battery pull scared the $hit outta me because it won't boot right back up again...loads a solid black screen and does nothing else, i've tried waiting like 15 mins once and still nothing. the only way to fix THIS problem is to keep pulling the battery and alternatively pressing and holding the power button untill at last i finally see the sweet relief of the white motorola symbol. This sometimes takes as many as 15 to 20 tries at pulling battery!! If anyone has any information as to what can b causing this problem or how to fix please reply, or contact @ [email protected]

Since this is the first rom you installed I'm not sure what is causing your problem. Typically, this problem is a result of not wiping data and cache.

I wiped data n cashe...tried wiping n reinstalling...even tried wiping and booted a different rom, but when i had to open my slider to sign into google acct. Phone froze...so i had to reboot skip sign in and do it using android keyboard

Nope...didn't get it fixed...my phone started freezing all the time, and ended up bricking...I tried pulling my battery at least 100 times to no avail...just kept loading a black screen...luckily I have the T.E.C insurance, so I took my "bricked?" Phone back to the verizon store and walked out w/ a new 1! Like I said I'm new to this stuff so I'm not 100% sure but I think I might have done something wrong with overclocking kernals and set cpu, and ended up frying my cpu, because the day b4 my phone konked out...the phone got really hot and my set cpu widget temperature read 112 degrees and all of the sudden my battery drained to 0. Needless to say as badly as I want to install the Froyo 2.2 rom right now I think I'm just gonna b patient and wait for the official release. The only reason I wanted to mod my phone in the 1st place is was to change the color of the ugly ass notification bar, and w/ home++ I can just get rid of it all together...so I'm happy for now!!! I don't think I'll get another phone w/out raising some eyebrows over @ verizon, so I don't need another bricked phone!

Not Your fault

My wife's phone has this EXACT issue, and no root was attempted, Whenever the kb slide is used at all the phone locks up completely, Exactly as described. We're going to go to Verizon and demand a replacement today (The phone is still under MF warranty, because we didnt root)

I'll let you know what happens at verizon.

Just wanted you to know that it wasn't your fault as it happened on a non-rooted phone, probably a GPU issue dealing with the rotation of the screen when sliding KB.

Same problem here.. mine started out as freezing randomly and not its usually when I slide it open.. Ive tried factory reset and hard reset- neither have worked. I am also not rooted, but I am out of my manufacture warranty.

You can try link 4 in my sig. If that doesn't work then you can try and flash the 2.2 .sbf and see if it clears up your problems.

Went to verizon, had it checked - The phones ribbon cable was going out - the phone wouldnt actually freeze, the last image shown would remain on-screen and phone would no longer display updates. This had something to do with the Ribbon cables positioning on the device, I would RMA your device.
