Screen is cutting my thumb

I think this is a very, very slight defect in cutting or assembly of your phone....and mine.

I am using a Zagg screen protector which covers the whole glass all the way to the plastic unlike the Moto screen protectors. This adds a teeny bit of thickness to the glass. If you line it up correctly your finger will rub the soft plastic screen protector and not the sharp glass when you pull the notification bar.

I also have a Droid X skin from Skinit.com. It's pretty much a series of stickers that cover the plastic areas of the phone. The front sticker overlaps the Zagg screen protector a little bit and covers the gap between the glass and plastic. It basically covers all the glass that doesn't have LCD behind it.

I didn't get cuts, but I started to notice the skin on my right thumb peeling. The Zagg screen protector and/or a skinit.com skin will save your thumb.

NOTE: If you decide to use both, you will want to give the Zagg screen protector a couple of days to seal and tighten before applying the skin. I hated putting liquid on my phone, but read the instructions, take your time, and do it right. Don't worry if you get fingerprints on the edges of the screen protector; the skin overlaps about 1/4th of an inch of the screen protector on the top and sides and about 1/2 inch on the bottom. If you line up the top edge of the screen protector and hold the bottom while applying, fingerprints at the bottom will be covered up by the skin. You can prevent fingerprints by applying some liquid to your fingertips before application. If you need to move or reseat the skin, be careful not to peel off your screen protector. If the screen protector peels a little, just take your time and put it back (without liquid). Squeeze out large air bubbles. Smaller micro bubbles will go away in a day or two. If you have to, you can completely reapply the screen protector provided you saved some of the liquid.

Ok this is probably going to sound nutty... lol
When I pull the notification bar down on my dx ... I tend to go up to the top middle of the screen where it says "motorola" ... I noticed something similar to paper cuts on my right thumb ... I guess the glass screen is raised a tiny bit and its cutting my thumb.

I love my dx I just think this is a funny design flaw or something. I'm trying to retrain myself to drag the notification bar from the corner.

Has anyone else noticed this with the raised glass? I have a case on it but wonder if a different case would prevent this.

Why do you go to the top of the screen to swipe downward??? You aren't supposed to do that.

You can swipe down ANYWHERE on the screen to bring down the notification bar. I usually swipe down in the middle of the phone.

No design flaw; you are just doing it incorrectly.

I just tried this, it's not true. You have to touch the status bar and pull it down. You can't just swipe anywhere.

Joha you described it very well... My thumb was peeling from tiny little cuts barely visable until they started piling up after several days. That is when I realized what was causing it and changed the way I drag the notification bar.

I have a steinhill crystal screen protector but did use a zagg on my d1 for a bit.

Thanks for your post. You made me feel less nutty. lol

If you have a defect of any kind in your phone within 30 days why not get it replaced for new,,,and insist on new it is not your fault the phone is defective. If after 30 days you still can get a replacement...it is obviously a manufacturer defect. Why do people try to work with a defective device when you can use that until a new one arrives...yes a slight incinvenience but the phone is a 600 dollar piece of equipment that is cutting you! Just my opinion

 Yes. There is an edge of both the screen and the border at the top center. I suspect one or both of these were not finished properly.

I can feel the edges on mine, but they are not sharp at all.

mamaperk, I work on cars and have tough skin so I'm not able to replicate your problem but can see where the bottom edge of the speaker could be sharp enough to do that.

Get a sharp knife out of your kitchen drawer and run it across the edge of the bottom of the speaker, that will round the edge off the plastic and make it dull so you won't have any more issues. Just use the tip of the blade, sharp edge to the plastic and run it across so the blade is perpendicular to the edge of the plastic.. Like you're trying to remove the silver from a lottery ticket.. Shouldn't cause any visual imperfections and fix your problem!
