Screen Orientation Won't Switch

AtLast

New Member
I have my screen orientation set to switch automatically, but it isn't switching. I'm using the LG Theme, but even if I change it to the Android theme, it doesn't work. The orientation only changes if I slide out the QWERTY keyboard or if I have a web browser open. Otherwise, it doesn't change and I have tried powering the phone off, unchecking and rechecking the "Orientation" box in the settings, and uninstalling the apps that I added because those were the only suggestions that I found.

This is driving me crazy. Suggestions for a fix?

First, the simple one-word answer "LauncherPro" probably would've been much more helpful if you had suggested downloading the app LauncherPro. If I wanted to continue googling solutions, I wouldn't have bothered with posting here.

Second, while I appreciate the fact that this quick fix actually worked, I wasn't looking for a solution that didn't actually solve the problem. This new theme is not a theme I am interested in using, and it does not fix the problem with the two themes the phone came with. I should have asked if there was anything I could do about the phone malfunctioning with its factory given applications. It worked fine for the first day and a half, so I'm at a loss as to why the phone suddenly won't change orientation.

As I understand it, landscape orientation doesn't work on the home page unless the keyboard is open. I noticed this in the store and asked the salesperson about it. The salesperson told me it doesn't work on the home page and downloaded launcherpro for me to do that. Otherwise landscape seems to work fine on most screens. There are some that it just doesn't work on (although I can't think of any specifically right now). I don't believe the phone doesn't work properly; it just isn't capable of landscape orientation on all screens np matter what theme is used. Hope this answer helps you.

Wait, so you're saying it just doesn't switch orientation to landscape unless you slide the keyboard out? Er, then why was my phone doing it a-okay for the first day and a half or so? I was using it with the LG theme and it changed the orientation whether the keyboard was out or not, regardless of what theme I had. I don't understand...is it a defective phone or not? Lol.

I'm saying that landscape didn't work on the homescreen on the demo phone in the store or on the brand new phone that I bought unless the keyboard was open. Per the salesperson it doesn't work on the homescreen with the stock themes, at all, just isn't capable of it with those themes. Was landscape working on your homescreen before and stopped? When I change to the stock themes, it doesn't work on the homescreen unless the keyboard is open.

Otherwise you can check your settings again for orientation to automatically switch.

As I said, for the first day and a half of use, the phone changed orientation as it should. I have already toggled the orientation option, tried deleting apps I had added to the phone, and tried powering the phone off and on as these were all suggestions I found for solutions to fixing this problem and none of them worked. If I am using the LG Home or Android theme, the screen does not change from portrait to landscape when on the main screen. It used to. Ha, take comfort in the fact that yours never worked at all -- it's highly disappointing when it stops.

I suppose but I've been using launcherpro since I bought the phone a week ago and like it.

Take the phone back to the store if you think it's defective.

The same thing happened to my phone... It was changing the orientation (on the home screen and everywhere else) the first day, and then it wouldn't do it anymore. I was also told that it wasn't even really supposed to be doing it like that unless the keyboard was out. So, I downloaded Tag Home (make sure its the right version for your phone) from the market, and it looks and functions 100xs better than the original. Every now and then, it gets stuck ie, it will gray out like its going to change the orientation, but it never does. So whenever this happens, I restart the phone and viola, it works again. I recommend Tag Home to everyone. Its the same home screen as the original, it just gives you more options, gives you way more work spaces, and allows you to customize your drawer (I also recommend that you turn the cache OFF). I also downloaded the LauncherPro, and man, that thing really sucks, I would never tell anyone to use that- at least not for the Devour. Hope this helps!

Tag Home fixes automatic screen orientation

Thanks for the Tag Home information . My LG Ally was doing the same thing . It might have had something to do with the 2.1 droid update ? Who knows ? When using he Tag Home app the screen rotates just fine . Thanks again !

For what its worth, I've had my Ally for a little over a month. I've never had any of my home screens show up in landscape mode, unless I open the Qwerty board. Yet you can get landscape mode if you open up any of the apps or browser w/o opening the qwerty, by just turning the phone horizontally. At least that has been my experience ; )
