Screen repeatedly shuts off

I got a droid 2 last night and absolutely love it. This is the first smartphone I have owned and I am more than impressed with it. I have been having trouble with the screen shutting off on me however. It only happens when I am on wifi at home so far but that could be because it is where I have used it most. Last time it happened about 8-10 times in quick succession. Each time I was able to unlock the screen and resume what I was doing but it was still irritating. And of course when I brought it back to the store they were unable to recreate the problem and therefore unable to give me a replacement or really help much which I totally understand but is frustrating nonetheless. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!!

The screen turns off while you are in the middle of using it?

Get Screebl from the Market. It's an app I can't live without and it will solve this issue.

Alright and just for clarity you were actively using the phone and it wasn't just the screen timeout right? And ya try screebl.

Right. I would be in the process of writing a message and the screen would shut off.

Ok I don't think screeble will help you with that but you can try it. First suggestion: did you try a reboot? You never know what it can fix and its always my first step when I encounter any anomaly.

Yup rebooted earlier today and within 30 minutes it did it again. Its has happened 4 times today, each time shutting off atleast 3 times. Also once in the middle of writing this.

I have two theories. Your screen must either have a loose wire or the screen itself is defective. The second one is very unlikely but...could it be the proximity sensor? To test this, just put your hand over the top part of your phone near the ear piece. I can't imagine a scenario where the proximity sensor would remain active after a phone call.

I'm pretty sure its not the proximity sensor. Yesterday at Best Buy Mobile they tried to recreate the issue as if it was caused by that. Sounds like its back to the store today to try again. Hopefully my phone will cooperate today and I will actually be able to show them the issue.
To thank you so much everyone for all of your help and quick responses! Its been nice getting some answers.

Same Problem

I just got the Droid2 Global yesterday as well and I'm having the same problem. I am also using my Wi-Fi, not sure if that is a commonality.

I'm specifically having the problem on the email/calendar screen and it's very inconsistent and streaky. At times when I am using that email screen the screen will shut off within 2 seconds of me touching it.

Any idea what's going on? Has that app that was suggested fixed your issue and is it only happening for you while using wireless?

Screebl didn't help, and I did have it happen while on 3g yesterday, so I don't think its a wifi problem. My guess is that we ended up with faulty screens somehow, especially since I can't find any other instances of the problem online anywhere.

Did you get yours in Massachusetts?

Yeah at the Best Buy Mobile in the Solomon Pond Mall. Did you get yours in Mass?

I did, Burlington Mall...wonder if it's a batch in our area?

Let's see if others report the same issue. Were you able to find any similar posts? The phone has been out for a month or so, so you'd figure this type of issue would have already come out of the woodwork.
