Screen repeatedly shuts off

A fix!

Hey guys, how are things? I just bought a Droid 2 Global... And ran into the same problem. Happened randomly it seemed. I came here to see if I could figure it out but did not see a fix... So I went through the phones settings, bit by bit slowly and found the fix...

Go into Settings->Display-> and uncheck in pocket detection. There is a tiny sensor in the top left of the phone, and is pretty finicky... As you all probably know, it did it seemingly randomly. I've done some testing turning it on and off and covering the whole top part with my finger and it turns off when the option is checked, yet stays on when it isn't.

Hope this helps you guys! Take care.

Welcome to the forums. Solving a problem on your first post. I like it.

Let us know if that works.

Thank you Spaz33g. Glad to be here.

I hope that problem is fixed for others by turning pocket detection off. It'd be a nice feature if it wasn't so finicky.

Thanks, made the change, I'll follow up if this works.

Funny I was in Best Buy when I got the email about this solution, and the guy there had just done that to try and fix the problem. I'll let you all know if it worked.

my phone does the same thing

The problem just started today... I noticed that if the keyboard is open, it does not shut off on you.. if you find a solution, please let me know!

This has worked for me so far. And if you have noticed that you don't have an issue when the keyboard is open then it would make sense that it is a problem with the in pocket detection, I mean I would think that having your keyboard open would deactivate in pocket detection.

yea i just tried turning off the pocket detection and so far it is working.. hopefully its a permanent fix! thanks for all the help

thanks!!!

I have noticed the same problem and now trying to see if that fixes the problem...

Btw any one seen the haptic feedback does not turn off even after the setting is set to off?

Glad that helped you all too!

As for the Haptic Feedback problem, it turns everything BUT the four touch keys no matter what I try. After doing some research, the following link seems to be our best bet to watch and hope for a fix...

Maybe if enough people say they need it fixed, a patch may come along to do so... I am still learning about the phone, as well as Android in general... But I know I'd sure love to get this feedback thing fixed! If I find a fix, I'll let ya'll know.

same thing

D2global does this repeatedly for me. it's starting to feel like the iphone 'your holding it wrong' issue.

When i turned off the inpocket detect, and then put the phone in my pocket, the battery drained in <2hrs and felt like it was burning up...Adding a simple timer to this feature would fix this, ie no shut-off if less than 5 sec darkness. just a thought.

Just to pipe in since this is in the regular D2 section, the non-global version doesn't have the inpocket setting, do you guys on the D2G still have a screen timeout option?

My wife and I purchased D2G's last Wednesday and both of us are experiencing this problem. Yes the D2G's have the screen time out option in display and a lock time out option in the securities setting. We set our display time out to 1 min and synchronized our phone to get locked when the display goes off.

Yes we had the in pocket detection turned on (just turned it off) will keep you guys posted if it helps.

Not that this is a resonable solution or anything, but if you want your phone to automatically turn off that setting when you hit the screen unlock button, I think you could have an application like tasker automate that. And you could possibly have it so that when the screen shut off it turns pocket detection back on. I do not know if this would actually work, but it is possible it would. Also, I was having this screen shutoff problem, and am trying this fix. I am not in the mass. area, but did order my phone online so it could be the batch (or bad pocket-detection sensing all over).
