My girlfriend does modeling for a small photography company. I'd like to make one of her picture my wallpaper like many other screens in this thread have but I have no idea how to get her picture to fix perfectly like those do.
What kind of resizing is necessary to get the image to fit perfectly on the home screen?

I use Wallpaper Wizardrii. It's an app that will allow you to fit any size wallpaper you want to the screen and will work as scrolling or non-scrolling.
