SDCard died

I have been using my 8GB SDCard since I received this phone over a year ago. I pulled it from my previous phone. It suddenly died and luckily I had just backed everything up to my computer. The sdcard isn't even readable in a PC. It cannot even be formatted! What is really strange is that a week or so ago my wife's SDCard in her S3 did the same thing! One of my friends S3 just did the same thing also!

What is going on? Any others having these issues. All the SDCards are totally dead! Anyone have any ideas?

Sdcards can go bad or have corrupted files, but they typically give warnings such as not being able to access files or not mounting at boot.
I have had corrupted files and able to fix it on my PC before the card completely gives out.

I also but a replacement because I was getting corrupt files weekly.

If you notice issues before it gives out you can put it in your PC and run:
chkdsk /F /X drive letter:

None of the 3 cards gave any sort of warning. We all recently did update to 4.3. I have no idea why that would have anything to do with it but I can't think of anything else.
