What are the improvements with 2.3.340 ?

Do you think it's worth coming out of 2.2 root, deodex, and theme for the upgrade?

Don't know if anyone noticed, but there is now an equalizer for the speaker

Well the stock 2.2 has one...just not a frequency line level based type of eq. Looks like this.

The new dialer is absolute crap. They made the dial pad smaller so they could put the most recent call at the top. If I want to see the most recent call I'll go to the recent tab. Clear the recent list and it goes away but the gap is still there at the top and the dial pad is still small. Don't know who thought that up but someone should slap them.

Another bit of crap with the update. The lights on the menu, home, back, and search key no longer light up.
I keep finding more things that don't work. This phone is going back tomorrow.
Edit: Camera used to work but took crappy pictures, now it won't even open.
Edit: Data Mgr was just a black screen, still a black screen that force closes now.

I updated.. haven't bothered rooting yet but the whole phone seems snappier to me .. I like the new dialer and I've had the phone running for like 10 hours and I still have 60 % battery which is insane for me

The new my verizon a major improvement over old version, easier to read and move around in. The data widget is pretty nifty to see on the fly how much bandwith your sucking up from vzw dialer doesn't seem too different and I don't see madden installed anywhere, not that I actually care.

So, when can I have gingerbread?

Personally I like the new dialer. Its not just a "recent call" list. It is also a search result box. Start typing in some numbers and it will start displaying matches from your contacts. Thats something I find very useful and would have liked to have seen a long time ago. With the size of the DX's screen that reduction in the size of the buttons is not that bad....the dialer is still larger than my D1 was.

I think there are other issues with your phone other than this update. Mine has none of the issues you mention. The lights on the hard keys still works fine after the update. My camera (and most everyone else that has posted about the camera fix) is working fine. Data manager opens just fine. As far as the black screen, when it first opens it is just a black screen (just like before the update), but after about 10 15 seconds it populates with the "Data Delivery" Option.

Maybe your update that downloaded was corrupt or something.

The recent update fixed my wifi problem and so far no FCs on any of the stock apps like battery manager and the market.

But the WiFi problem is gone. It's been connected for almost 24 hours straight now without a single drop.

Let me ask you something jhatton. Why did you become a member at the Droid Forums? I've looked at all of your post and they all seem to be negative comments made towards the Android OS.

Now everyone is entitled to an opinion and I'm not saying you can't have yours but if you intent in joining this forum was just to make comments that are negative, then we are going to have an issue.

If you have something to actually contribute then by all means please do. But comments like this one serve only one purpose: To cause people to get defensive and start arguments. Either say something other then "hmmmmm" at the end of your post or don't post it up at all
