Should I root now or wait for 4.0.5?

If you want the update right-stat-now, yeah you will probably have to unroot. Usually devs put out rooted stock ROMs of updates very shortly after they roll out. Within a few days, if not sooner.
usually the ROMs see the new code before they're pushed OTA. As illustrated by the 4.0.4 ROMs, when 4.0.4 isn't out yet
Yea the warranty is my only concern. This phone is amazing, I can't believe it's not getting the attention it deserves. I love it naked with no protector, it just feels good( that's what she said). I'm going to wait a few more days, if no update by then, I will attempt to root for the first time.. yea I'm a virgin lol.. that's wh.... aww, you know

if you need to turn it in, just flash back to stock

I rooted my phone after the 14 days were over..just to make sure my phone had no major issues..and I'm not gonna lie..it was hard to not root it once it was out the box..so yeah its pretty much up to you..

Well, that's because 4.0.4 was a Google update, so the source was released, along with the "leaked" OTA. Supposedly 4.0.5 is a Verizon engineered update, so it is unlikely that a source will be released before the update actually hits. Then again, this is all speculation based off of what I have read. I could be totally wrong!

Well looks like I am alone with my opinion lol. I guess that's what you get with a developer phone
Not at all. I ran stock for 3 days at least, that's 3 days longer than my Incredible:D It was the best experience I got in awhile and almost comparable to my first smartphone (OG Droid). It felt familiar, but the new methods of doing things were a nice change and certainly more intuitive, imo at least.

However, I chose a ROM based off the stock ROM (Android Revolution) so it still feels stock to me. The only changes I notice are better battery life, runs just a tad smoother, and i got a black/white theme instead of the black/blue. Usually I say I'm rooted and ROMed, but with the experience of stock without the flaw (bad battery life).

OP, if you're curious about rooting and ROMing, read into it first. See if it's for you and see if it's something you're comfortable doing (alot of us were afraid for that first step). Yes the Nexus is supposed to be a Google experience, but look at the carrier, it's almost as if the Nexus is somewhat jailed isn't it? If it really is Verizon causing the delays then it's because they want the update to get things right so they don't take any heat. Sure most of us are mad at them now, but think about if we had to get an update every couple weeks to fix little things here and there? I'd be even more annoyed with that, so I just want to see them get it right the first time with one big update. Normally I'd preach patience, but even I think we've waited long enough. However I'm happy with my phone with no problems so I may be the exception.

eh, even still. It'll take hours after they release it before a deodexed, debloated ROM comes out

Actually this isn't correct. 4.0.4 was a Verizon only build. The source for 4.0.4 has not been released. The few "4.0.4" roms out there are not build from source, only patched together from the Verizon leak.

Thanks for the correction! I must have misunderstood what I had been reading in the past. I thought the links to Google with the 4.0.4 radios and such was the "source." My apologies!

4.05 is supposed to be a major improvement over current 4.0.2 stock.I would wait simply because stock for this phone is the best and mainly why people buy nexus phones..

Anyways wait a little bit.

I developed OCD from checking for updates soo much. I had gotten over it, now it looks like I will be checking every 10 mins again... damn it

Source bring released does not equal OTA. I'd suggest not wasting your time.
