Not to mention, there is a leaked and rooted Gingerbread Rom for the Droid 2 at MyDroidWorld. Read the discussions in the forum to make sure you avoid boot-loops (or bricking) if you decide to go this route. It's an Official Release Candidate: a mostly polished version of GB that is in testing with Motorola and Verizon Wireless to decide if it is worthy of being released or needs to go back for bug fixes. (Of course, it's Rooted, so not exactly the official version).

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good custom build 2.2 (froyo) based Roms out there. The difference is with the GB 2.3 is that it is mostly an official build and still contains Blur (although Ninja Blur). If you like Blur (not judging you), you will probably love the updated Blur on 2.3 in that it runs FAST. Unlike Blur on the Droid 2 runing 2.2, the experience is night and day on the GB update. Just my two cents.
