How does this thing sync to your phone. Does the phone need to be in a certain distance?

It's Bluetooth so about 40 meters.

If I wanted one I'd get the Sony Smartwatch that's $100 cheaper and works with just about any Android phone. And it doesn't have a useless camera on it.
