Some Thunderbolt love to counteract all the negativity

I have Google Voice but I don't use it for voicemail because then I will need to give people a new number - I've had the same cell number for 4+ years and don't want to change it.

Using GV as your main voicemail does not require you to use your GV number. You set up your phone to forward unanswered calls to your GV number. I don't recall the number you dial but it's easy to find... Someone else will probably post it here. Voila, Google Voice becomes free visual voicemail for your cell phone.

The phone is a great phone especially for people who rooted it. I've been getting great battery life with custom a Rom. But you gotta think about it in a big picture. Not all TB owners are rooted. Having said that, Verizon or HTC could have done a better job with this phone for the average users. Not all TB owners have Google Voice or should be forced to use it to band aid the VM fix.

I call BS on this logic and anyone else who says "Yes there's a perfect fix but I shouldn't have to do it!!1!!11"

Especially if you're hanging out on a forum like this - that makes you an enthusiast. If a fix exists for your issue but you don't want to do it because "you shouldn't have to", then that's your problem.

For everyone who says not to suggest rooting to fix someone's problem, why the frak not? It fixes the issue, doesn't it? My anecdotal evidence suggests rooted users seem to be happier with their phones. Wouldn't it make sense to help everyone who isn't happy with their phones find a solution that would make them happy?

Love this phone and sense! The battery could be better, but not nearly as bad as some have made it out to be. Juice defender and changing the preset sync options should be sufficient for most users as far as battery life goes.

This phone has been a pr nightmare from the beginning, but the quality of this HTC phone is very much understated in general. Glad there are some rational people that recognize how good this phone has been!

Dude you are missing what Im trying to say. I've been rooted from day one I owned the TB and I have the vm fix thanks to Eris. My point is that not all thunderbolt owners are rooted. In addition, why should the end user sit down on these forums and search for a fix for their phones. Anyone who buys any phone expects it to work out of the box. All Im saying its a great phone however one of the companies either verizon or HTC dropped the ball on this phone.

Ah, I didn't know that! Although, is it the phone itself that forwards the calls to GV? Say for instance your phone is off or is in an area with no data coverage, will your voicemails still get forwarded?

The last part required me to log into my Google account on my laptop where it gave me a number to call. I then got a notification saying GV was successfully added as my vm carrier

How did you do that...I just installed it i'm on my google account now.

If you go to the top info bar where it has web, images, etc, click on more and then click on even more and it should take you to a page with all of googles apps. From there I just clicked on 'voice' and the set up instructions were right there. Good luck!

do I have to put my number there or port it to google voice...have to pay 20 bucks

Though I wouldn't trade my thunderbolt for anything, i must say I'm not a fan. At first i loved it, but then the hate grew on me after a while. It's not a bad phone i just don't like it. People have different taste...though some follow the crowd like sheep. There has been some hate growing for the bionic, but i love my bionic. I can understand where they are coming from though since i have been in the same situation. With that said, I've never taken a phone back or exchanged it for a new one because i didn't like it right off the rip. That's why i still have the thunderbolt :D

I've loved GB on my tbolt, probably because I rarely get vm. It's also made my data way faster, or so it seems, although speedtest shows it much much slower... Possibly broken app?
