Something has gotta give with this battery life

I just checked what is using my battery and I have 32% for display and 16% for phone calls. So basically half of my battery use was from those 2 things.

I took my phone off charge at 6:30am and it is now 1:00pm and the battery indicator shows about 75%, but when I put it on the charger it is showing 50%. I basically did not talk on the phone for no more then 5 minutes or so. I actually streamed a radio station with "Radio Time" for probably 45 minutes to an hour, but it shows Radio Time as only using the battery 10%.

Root and underclock it when its at idle. :)

my battery life is terrible too. i have finally stopped overclocking and set the speeds back down to 550mhz. now i can go 16-18hrs and be at 10-20% at the end of the night. while OC'd, i would be at 20% by 6pm. pathetic.

Before doing this, my battery life was horrible just like yours and I couldn't figure out what was causing it -- I had checked my "Battery Use" under settings and it was all normal and it said Display was using the most which didn't help at all since on the Droid, you need to turn the display on in order to do anything, but now that I have done the following stuff, my battery life is amazing!

To give you a little insight on how good the battery life is after doing all of this here are the battery stats:

Unplugged my phone this morning at 6:30 AM and it's 10:10 PM right now and I'm at 60% and that's with moderate use (texting every hour, some web browsing, and answering/sending about 50 calls today each about 5-10 mins long.)

Here's what helped for me. I rooted my Droid and installed the latest version of CyanogenMod for the Droid and downloaded the latest update of SetCPU from XDA Developers (this is free on XDA Developers, if you need a link to it just send me a PM and I will get the link for you) and then I opened up SetCPU and set it to the following profiles (credits to Cereal Killer for the profiles):

Min 250Mhz - Max 1,200Mhz with ondemand (Advanced: 62500, 70, 0, 70)
Charge: Min 250 -Max 600 (ondemand)
Sleep/Standby: Min 250 - Max 250 (ondemand)
power < 41% Min 250-Max 600 (ondemand)
Power: <31% Min 250 - Max 250 (ondemand)
Failsafe: >46.4c (114F) Min 250 - Max 500 (ondemand)

After doing all this, you will see a HUGE increase in battery.

Good luck! Send me a private message if you need any help!

I'm trying it now besides the underclocked when charging. I use my phone mostly when it's on it's charger when I'm in bed so I left it overclocked.

I'm at 60% at 3 o' clock with moderate usage. Unplugged at 100% at 7:20 this morning.

Thanks for the input, I'll be sure to respond with my results. I hope the results are much better tomorrow.

no but my setcpu profiles were pretty much identical to that before. i wonder if its somethign with the ROMs. if i make one or two 10 minutes calls, my battery will lose 20% a lot quicker.

its pretty embarassing lol. i have to keep this thing off and at low brightness just so it last me the whole day. i try to use it as little as possible. this thing's a joke ha

My battery sucks so last night I got juice defender and ultimate juice omg I could not believe the difference it is making so far.normally after seven hours I would be near fifty percent.after hours hours so far after purchasing I am at eighty six percent what a difference!!!

Evidently with my settings I've increased my battery life by 3.39%

I don't really see those numbers, but I can promise that I am getting at least 2x the battery life I did before.

Example:

  • 10pm yesterday: Phone off charger. Mild usage from then till 4am.(Texting and Tapatalk, email with one browser usage)
  • 4am went to sleep.
  • 11am today: Woke and have used it a fair amount(calls, texting, browsing, Tapatalk, email) till now: 4:21pm
  • 4:21pm: I'm still at 50% battery.
That's over 18 hours and I still have 50% battery life. I do carry around my chargers because hey, who knows if I am going to decide to play RoboDefense for 3 hours while waiting at the DMV, but I generally do not fear I am going to run out of battery life any longer.

Edit: I guess I could say with my normal usage I could get two days of time out of a charge using this app.

Thanks for reposting these Checkpoint (and thank you CK for the profiles!)

I get a good 1.5 days out of my Droid, while overclocked at 1ghz.

I guess I am lucky.

This is my problem with this phone and am happy even after 45 days that Verizon is sending me a Droid Incredible in the mail which will be here on Monday. I rely on my way to much for work and am not always in a spot I can throw it on charge. The battery life sucks and you shouldn't have to root the phone or run task managers to save the life. I don't use live wallpapers, the only things running in the background are Weatherbug and Seesmic and push email of course. I don't use the phone all that much for more than checking Facebook once in awhile as well as Seesmic for Twitter which only updates every hour. The touch screen is very unresponsive. I've miised numerous calls because the stupid thing would slide to answer the call. The WiFi always disconnects even when I'm 6 feet from the router. It shows it's connected and have a full signal, but no connection. I have to turn it off and back on to get it to work again and even that is usually short lived. Sometimes it will last for 30 minutes, other times maybe 5. I won't miss this thing one bit I'm sorry to say. Looking forward to the Incredible. Hope it lives up to the hype. The reviews have been really good so far from what I've read.

At the end of the day, if you go to Settings > About Phone > Battery Use..

What is the top battery consumption uses?
