Sony seems a bit confused right now regarding whether their 2011 Xperia phones will be able to receive the Jelly Bean update or not. Perhaps it is simply a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing, but they at least are trying to get their story straight. About a week or so ago, a Sony rep shared on their Facebook page that the 2011 Xperia phones would not be eligible to get Jelly Bean, but all the 2012 devices would. It was disappointing news to some, and seemed like a closed subject. That was not the case apparently.

Sony execs weren't happy with that outlook, so they issued a retraction statement, via the Sony Blog. In this one they indicated that Sony is "actively investigating" whether the 2011 line of Xperia devices will be able to get Jelly Bean.

What do you think? Is this simply a case of PR back-peddling, or do you think we will see some real results?

I would think that any device that currently runs ICS would be able to go to JB without issue.
