Stock Thunderbolt rebooting randomly

Since my initial post I've experience two additional reboots and one thing that I've noticed is that mine don't happen over WiFi, mines only seemed to happen when I was connected to Verizon's network.

There has been a lot of speculation it is the new radio, so that is consistent with that theory.

I live in NW Ohio. Had my Tbolt since Friday. It updated automatically Friday. I've had random reboots twice. Once was driving with navigation and pandora. The second was at my desk using the default music player listening to mp3s. There is no 4G here yet. The phone was charging both times

ok well ive posted above (someplace?) so this is an update.
so i called verizon taday because i was a little worried about the two reboots ive noticed although i could of had more? so i got a service tech dude. wait let me start by saying i am rooted and i did install the leaked ruu update before i rooted i am running bams remix. well i talked to a tech dude and he had me check the soft (menu>settings>about phone>software) and he asked about what version software i was on (1.13.605.7) and he said "ok you have the update 1.13 thats good" so he had me do an app and contact back up (people/contacts>menu>import/export>export to sd>phone then repeat for google) then i went and did a factory reset (menu>settings>sd & phone>factory data reset). then it reboots and and he said that should fix the random reboots and if not then they will replace the phone with a "new" one. in other words a refurb one. he also added that by doing it thru verizon its in the system with the issue so if i notice the reboots again thats when i will receive my new phone. hope this info helps anyone out. and no i did not disclose that i was rooted but if it starts to reboot again i will unroot at that time and call them back. but i need to set it back up to my liking again.

Hookbill - I haven't had any problems with ATK yet, but if I do I will remove it asap. Juice defender is really helping my battery though.

I called Friday and a CR had me factory reset the phone,a fterwards it still randomly rebooted. I called them back today and they're sending me a replacement. I'll update when I get it (should only be a day or two).

PS. They said to use the 'same battery'. Anyone else hear this? Are they sending replacements without batteries?

They're sending you a Certified Like New Replacement

You're not getting a brand new phone. You're getting one that someone else already had problems with and returned. Verizon just factory resets and sends back out.

You won't be pleased with your replacement.

Ok....so I called vz and got same response...to do a factory reset. F* that!! I deleted the my Verizon app along with a few others I don't use and voila...no reboots since last night. Give it a try ...

Good luck!

Which Verizon app? There are like 50 of them on this phone, and I don't think they can be removed without rooting the phone, can they? I wouldn't mind dropping all this crap that they put on there. :icon_evil:

Thunderbolt Restarts

I've had my TB since it came out. I love the sturdiness of it. I love the display, speed, camera & many other options. It took some getting used to the battery drain BUT once you play with the phone settings a bit, you realize those issues can be minimized. This isn't an issue for me.

HOWEVER, I'm now frustrated.
After the latest firmware update, my TB constantly reboots. It happens when it's just sitting there and when I'm using it. Not only does it restart, once it restarts, I've found I have to manually restart it again to get the internet connection.
I did speak with Edward @ Verizon, who was wonderful by the way. We did a factory reset. This didn't fix anything. He explained that this has happened to many TB owners ever since the HTC firmware update. He advised he would let me know once he knows more about a fix.

I then emailed HTC with my frustration. This is the first HTC product I've had. (I've been with VWS for as long as I can remember & have rarely had problems with my phones.) HTC did email me back. They did advise the following (cut n pasted from email)
**********************************************
I am sorry to hear that your device keeps rebooting over and over again.
Unfortunately, the update has been causing the HTC Thunderbolt device to perform self reboots. At this time HTC has pulled back the update so that it can be fixed and relaunched in the very near future. Verizon has offered to swap out these devices for the customers at the local stores. Before you leave the store, please make sure that the device does not have the latest 2.3 update.

Amy, we do apologize for any inconvenicne that this may cause.

I appreciate their response. I'm not sure that it would help me much to go get a replacement. However, having an ETA would have been nice. I figure, I'll hold off for another week or two. If this isn't resolved by then, I'll have to request that VWS replaces this phone but I'd like a comparable one thats, not HTC. Believe me, I love the phone but the frustration level is building. I truly hope they can fix this quickly.

My 3G crashed a few days ago & it took the rep almost an hour to get it going. After trying the basic troubleshooting steps & talking with a tech we decided that a factory reset was needed.

Like you I was having an issue with constant reboots. I asked her god forbid anything happen to my phone, could I get a refurb phone of my choice. She said no, I can only get another tb.

That's some bs if you ask me. I'd raise some hell and if they still won't give you a working phone, look at your contract to see if there's an out clause for defective products or something.

I got my replacement today and I LOVE it. Perfect and looks like new. Goodbye scratches! dancedroid

PS. suck it! =P

Since the factory reset a few days ago I've had two reboots, so its better LMAO. $300 for a phone that decides when it wants to reboot when it wants.
