Only reason I mentioned anyone using the silent feature to be a creeper is because that's what I used it for.
Heh.

They hired a wedding photographer that still used film?! :icon_eek: Are you positive it wasn't a DSLR?
The noise you heard from your aunt's camera was likely the zoom motor during autofocus, which can be disabled, and also doesn't exist on virtually all phones. Just about any other clicks or beeps were generated artificially by the camera's speaker and can usually be turned off. Unless it was a DSLR, in which case there would be a mechanical click from the mirror flipping up, but the photographers camera would make that noise, too. It's very easy to make most digital cameras dead silent.
Most of her cameras were DSLR. She still used one film. Guess she likes dabbling in the old way of doing things.
As for my aunt's camera; it was the "click" sound setting. It only happens when she presses the button and it is obviously a digitally generated sound, as opposed to a mechanical one (the lens and flash were quieter).
The fact that "it's very easy to make most digital cameras dead silent" is what really upsets me. She could easily change this setting, but she doesn't care that she bothers people for no reason. And that is the point of my gripe; that the camera came with the noise on as the default.
AFAIK There is currently no laws regarding shutter sounds. Most phone manufacturers are putting these sounds in as default (and in some cases without the ability to silence them) in preparation for such laws. There is a proposal in the house of reps to require this in smartphones (H.R.414 I think, could be wrong) that was put forth last year, and it's still alive, barely. Also, other countries do require this. South Korea I can confirm, I think Japan also...
People will just find a way to disable the speaker altogether or hell, try the cough method, it works for farts.
