Stuck in a loop. Need help. =/

My droid is rooted. I was using Cyanogen but I kept having force closes with a lot of programs so I decided to go back to using Saphire. When the download finished it said it needed to reboot so I let it. But it just kept doing it. And doing it. It was getting stuck rebooting. So I pulled the battery out and tried to turn it on and it's still doing it.

Should I keep letting it reboot? What should I do? And, if you could, please be descriptive. I'm really bad with this sort of thing.

Pull the battery, open the physical keyboard, press the X key and put turn the phone back on. Hold the X key down until it reboots into which ever recovery program you are using (spr or clockwork). Install your backup then.

When I get a loop like, I flash back to whatever I have that was working. Boot into recovery, do a data wipe. Then apply new ROM.
