Suggested regular maintanence?

I'm curious about what regular maintanence should be performed on android phones, mine is the Droid X specifically.

Should it be defragmented? Caches emptied? Data from apps deleted? Virus check? What should I do to keep my device running smooth and how would you suggest doing it?

(I couldn't find a post on here regarding this, but if there is one, please link me to it and pardon this post.)

Sent from my DROID X while sippin' on fine, handcrafted Kirkland Signature Cognac and watching Beaches, son.

Rebooting every now and then ( that clears the cache) I don't know of any defrag for Android. Other than that the debate rages on about the need for anti-virus.

Alright, I'm not the best 'explainer', so if you don't know what I'm talking about or need me to slow down just say so and I or someone else will explain better.

If you're rooted, you can download a few apps to speed up your phone:
-cache cleaners from the market (CacheMate, etc.) to clean your system cache
-you can overclock if you want (Quickclock Advanced, DroidOverclock)
-you can use an app called Privacy Blocker to remove security issues with apps
-there's an app called Autostarts that allows you to change what programs start up when your phone boots up
-an app called Battery Calibration recalibrates your battery

If you're advanced enough, you could also install a custom rom or upgrade to Gingerbread.

Some things you DON'T need are task killers and antiviruses. They just waste resources as Android does a pretty good job by itself with these tasks.

Last thing: if you somehow fubar your phone, which is hard to do, you can download an SBF file (It's like reinstalling Windows on your computer).

That's all, hope I didn't overdo this post. Oh well. :)

I just reformatted my SD card the other day. Apps install files and whatnot on the SD card in order to function. And you get a cache of thumbnail pics from various apps, websites, or downloaded pictures and music. The problem is... these files don't just go away if you delete the app or the pictures or the music. So bit by bit, the SD card collects these remnants from old apps.

I'm one of those electronic "neat-freaks". I need all of my computer files organized, I empty my recycle bin 800 times a day, etc. So I reformatted my card. I saved the files I needed to my computer (like pictures and my system backups), then I unmounted the card in my phone and reformatted. It cleared everything off and only left the regular files. Then the apps I am currently using just put back the files they need. I moved my pics and backups to the card, ran another Titanium Backup to backup my apps/data, and I was good.

I really don't do anything unless I'm having problems which is rare. You might want to regularly comb through your SD card if you frequently uninstall apps as many of them leave stuff on the card.

I was having pretty much excatly the same problems as you guys, I figured it was the phone htc sensation, but it used to be so fast when i got it. I downloaded Android Defrag Pro from the android google play store, its a free defrag program designed for android, but has a pretty old school windows look. Did a pretty awsome job compared to anything else on the market.
