Test your headphone jack!!

I went to the verizon store to try and swap out the phone. Long story short, they wouldn't do it.

Three people put the headphones in there ear and said they couldn't hear the whine.

Also, I got some BS line about Android being open source, so if you don't have a consistent problem, it's not a problem (this was the response to my odd touch screen issue when the phone is charging, although it has only happened twice since I bought it last thursday)

Motorola is investigating the whine, so if it turns out to be hardware, they'll have no choice but to swap out for a new phone once updated stock is available.

Well the earphones im using are the drebeats and those have amazing sound and great frequencies. And I still haven't heard it. Mind you I'm listening to music I have saved, tunein radio and Pandora and still nothing when I turn it all the way down. Sum reason I can't hear it our just don't have it. Maybe I'm a lucky one! Earphones tried after my red Drebeats, a friends monster beats by dre, Co worker Boise earphones and sum cheap Phillips earplugs. Oh well. Only problem I have with the phone is when I removed my battery to read it, it took forever to get my 3g back to come on.

I first said my audio was clear.looks like I have to take that back. With a good pair of large over ear style there is no noise. When I use any pair of ear buds the whine is clear as day. Im going to look into an attenuator to see if it helps. This makes me sad.

This has been my experience as well. It's faintly audible on a pair of Sony over-the-ear studio headphones (I think they cost somewhere around $25 several years back), clearly noticeable on a $10 pair of JBL earbuds I picked up at the airport one time, and unbearable on a $50 pair of Sennheiser noise-cancelling earbuds.

Mine suffers from the same problem. I can here the noise in the background when I play music from the outside speaker and in my ear phones. It is obviously most noticeable when switching between tracks of songs when the audio feed is on with no track playing. I really love the phone. I am very frustrated though with this. I am also very scared for I'm in my 30-day promotional period and if I think this issue cant be resolved I'm going to have to return it. It is becoming very bothersome while streaming music on my phone.

Its the Kernal! I have been doing some digging in apps and the kernal has audio control features. We need this thing unlocked so we can make a new kernal to test out this theory of mine.

What you guys are hearing is the frequency to rule all machines. Didn't you guys know? If you hold it close to the microwave it can set the cook time.

I come from a sound competitor background, what seems to be the problem is a ground noise. Now how that is only showing on certain phones is definitely a defect. Return the phone... also just out of my curiousity, has anyone having these problems tried a different battery???

We're all in the same boat but most of us have 14 days and that makes it the 22nd when the phone would need to be returned...

I have the extended battery and it doesn't seem to have any effect on the problem in my case.

At this point, after doing tests and scanning multiple forums, I'm pretty sure by now that this boils down to being a ground loop problem which no patch or firmware will fix if it's hardware based. For those deciding to keep the Bionic in hopes that Motorola corrects this within a year and will allow a warranty exchange, here's an option (though I hate that I have to even suggest having to use it) to tide you over. The Motorola SYN2113 is a MicroUSB-to-3.5mm jack converter. For those whom the noise is infuriating and don't want to (or can't) wait for an Incredible HD or Prime, this may be the solution. Amazon has them for about $2. Ignore anything some descriptions say about it being for any specific Motorola phone; it should work for any Motorola phone with a MicroUSB port. Such a defect shouldn't exist in a flagship phone, but this may be good for those not wanting to buy a new set of headphones with in-line volume controls as a workaround. It also beats burning through your battery using bluetooth headphones. Hope this helps someone.
