Text Message Failure with Special Characters

Ran into a problem this week when sending messages from my Verizon Droid to a phone on AT&T. When I used the special character "..." (not 3 periods, but the special character on the ALT keyboard), the text message was never received on the other phone and I had no indication of message failure. However, when I replaced the special character with three (3) periods "...", the message went through.

Is this a compatibility issue?

Probably...I think Handcent has an option to scan messages for incompatible characters before it's sent...
