Thank god for that $30 data plan

That 5gb limit is only in place to deter tethering without the upgraded data plan. It has already been confirmed via Verizon themselves that using the features of the phone such as nonstop Pandora etc and going over the limit won't affect you, it is by doing things such as tethering that will.

So yes, it is 'unlimited' data for $29.99 - Suck away. ;)

It's interesting how much data a normal internet connection burns through. With my normal cable internet it doesn't really give me a "Gigabytes Used" snap shot.

I WiFi tethered my phone for a day because the cable went out from a storm, and I surfed normally. Hulu, CNN.com, etc. That DAY I used well over a gig of data.

EDIT: ok let me clarify the 5gb limit is for Mobile Broadband only.

Yes Guys don't panic about the data usage, We are REQUIRED to pay the Data plan. So all the talk about "if I didn't have the data plan" isn't really valid, our phones probably wouldn't work if we weren't signed up for the data plan.

Those prices I think are for tethering/mobile broadband accounts. Sooo don't panic everythings OK :icon_ banana::icon_ banana:

Well....you might want to be careful if you have tethering somehow enabled on your phone for your laptop as Verizon might get suspicious and then they'll have to charge you a lot!

actually the $30 plan really is unlimited, it has no cap. the 5000MB (not 5GB¹) cap is on the $45 "upgraded" plan. I've reached past 5000MB (almost 7GB once) without any problems, and then on one of my lean months (maybe 2GB tops), I tethered a couple times and got slapped with a $26 data charge. it's just unrestricted greed.

edit:

¹to be clear, 5GB = 5120MB, while Verizon's cap of 5000MB = 4.88GB

read the post above mine, there is no 5 gig cap.

when my brother-in-law got his BB, Verizon was changing around the plans a bit, and screwed up and didn't put the unlimited data back on mine and my father's line. the two of us managed to rack up a 500 dollar bill in 4 days, when my sister just happen to check the account page. and that was on two older windows mobile phones. I haven't seen how much I've managed to rack up on the Droid yet. have only had it for about 2 weeks.

Just got my bill, 1.6gb of data used. What are the standard rates for non data planned phones, just wondering what rediculous amount verizon woulda charged.

$3260.42

:icon_ laughup:

Yeah. People complain about the $29.99. There's simply no way you'd use this phone and not blow through that thirty bucks in a jiffy.
