The Droid let me down - Finally

In his defense, he did say that his wives phone (which is on Verizon) had perfect 3G coverage, so it does sound like the phone deserves some blame in this, since another phone on the same carrier was able to find a signal.

I haven't personally had any issues with 3G though, so I consider myself lucky. Now, as for the actual phone service, I will blame Verizon for that. Everything was great with my phone service until the Alltell merger. From that point on, it's been at AT&T or Sprint level.

x2, I don't know why you guys are telling him to blame Vzw when his wifes BB was working fine. The Droid isn't perfect, sometimes I don't get 3g in areas where I usually have a full signal. Keep in mind my bro iPhone does this all the time, lol.

Sorry, but the claim that this was all VZW's fault doesn't hold water, I think. The OP noted the following:

"...To make matters worse, my wife had no problems on her garbage Envy 3, 2 bars 3g. Even worse, one of my bosses was on her Blackberry the whole time without a problem. So yeah I am pi$$ed..."

I may be mistaken but I believe the ENV3 is an exclusive VZW phone. So I think it's reasonable to assume she was using the Verizon network. And the OP's boss might well have been on a VZW phone as well. In fact, I'm familiar with the coverage of various networks in eastern Washington/Idaho and I suspect that VZW's share is higher than their usual lion's share of phones there.

So what can one conclude? First, it is entirely possible that the concentration of VZW users in the Spokane arena overwhelmed the available cells. But second, it's also possible that the Droid is less adept at getting and holding a signal under those conditions than other phones.

I haven't had an opportunity to test the comparison with the Droid but my wife used to have a first generation ENV when I had a Windows smartphone (both through Verizon) and there were several instances where she was able to get a signal while I was not. I concluded at the time that her cheap "dumbphone" had a better radio.

I suspect that the OP may have encountered a situation where the combination of the Droid and an overcrowded network led to his problem.

Edit: It appears that great minds think alike as I see the post just above mine.

*shrug*

Man, I just got rick rolled, that was low! Haha.

Yeah, both my boss and wife are VZW. My wife had 2 bars, so not perfect and I could not see what my boss had, I just know she was emailing the entire game.

Honestly this might be specific to my phone the more I think about it. At home I switch to 1x frequently where my voyager did not. Even at work on 17th floor I switch over to 1x a couple times a week. I work with a few other droids, I will check theirs to mine.

Yeah, my Droid let me down Thursday.

I told it to go get my car washed, and it just laid there on the desk and didn't do anything - not a word, not a sound. It was just being an uncooperative, lazy phone.

Well, Mister smarty-pants, unlike you the Droid knew that it was going to rain.
Actually it's snowing here. But Thursday and Friday were nice - Sunny, temps in the upper 50's. Now it's snowing and 31. :(

Maybe if the OP had updated his prl at the time, it might have helped. Also the signal meter from one phone model to another is not exactly the same. I've had phones that supposedly show a good signal but still had poor voice quality or dropped calls. On my iPhone 3g, unless I had 4 bars and above internet browsing was frustratingly slow. With the Droid just 2-3 bars and I can still browse comfortably enough. And then of course there's still the possibility his Droid has radio problems but that should manifest itself more often.

Ah I noted I tried four times to update, and the fourth one went through. So it was updated while I was there. I do this monthly usually as I travel a lot.

Ive had problems in arenas and stadiums with service. I think this is a Verizon thing and not a droid thing. It will show you have full bars, and not be able to connect. Too many people using the same towers I assume.

It depends on where you are. At the Convention Center in San Diego I had no problems during ComicCon last year. Admittedly that was with a Voyager, but the Convention Center was set up for, well, conventions so there never was a situation where I couldn't connect.

Now at home I have 4 bars due to a Network Extender, but only 1x in data.

Unless you had another Droid to compare it to, it's hard to say if it was the source of the problem. And I would take the significance of the signal meter from another model phone with a grain of salt.

If this was the only time your phone was stuck in 1x, there's a good chance other factors were involved. I've had mine from release as well and so far nothing like this has ever happened (yet).

But that is not even my main point of aggitation. The whole time I had a picture in my head of CBS showing a person watching a live game on their iphone during the Husky game in San Jose the night before. I already know I can't get that with the Droid, but burning me more was the perception that Droid service is vastly superior to the iphone.

Okay rant over, thanks for listening and please share your similar aggitations. Trying to take my mind off the 2.1 update! LOL

Not that this is pertinent to the thread, but DO NOT SPEAK OF THIS GAME!!

Yeah, you gotta admit that was an incredible game. Watching my huskys play right now.

I compared my phone to another droid today and they were the same. I will have to wait til it switches to 1x again.

I'm about ready to buy a small unit that takes four rechargeable (or standard) AA batteries and will charge/run the phone. Then later at night I can plug it in and recharge the AA's. Essentially a portable battery pack. Getting it for long rides while utilizing GPS tracking apps.
iGo makes one that takes 2 AA batteries. You need to get a tip (I think it's the A97) to go with the Droid, but you can also get tips for lots of other small electronics and not have to buy separate chargers.

Oh yeah. Definitely an amazing game. Just hurts to lose on buckets in the final 10 seconds for 3 years straight. Stanford, missouri and now washington.

Wow, I didn't realize that history with Marquette! I would be aggitated too!

I am even going in and out of 3g as we speak, the last message I posted was through my phone at 1x. But I am at home with the phone attached to a wall.

I am considering the Siedio slim extended, when they finish it, assuming it doesn't have the same problems as the full extended.

Either way, I need to research more about my current problems. I was assuming more people were having this problem.

Yep, if I go to a hockey game I even have a hard time sending Tweets
