Me too... Bronx girl here! I never liked the city though. My Mom said I was ready to leave at age 5 to go to the country, but had to wait till I was 19! Big win!

We looked at Texas, it was third on our last GTFO excape plan list from Kalifornia. South Carolina was first, Idaho second... Then wife's sister and parents planned their moves to Portland OR, so #2 became #1 for her to be closer to them... (in their 80's...)
We also voted for a little Idaho cold over the other Texas weather "potential" extremes. Plus having a good paying job offer two months prior to the move, cemented the deal.

I think if we are smart, we would use the Texas power issues and realize that we cannot rely solely on renewable energy .. solar panels do not work in the snow and ice.

Solar doesn't work at night either, and more than half the time the wind turbines in the San Diego and imperial Valley are off...

Agree! Wind turbines have very high failure rates, and guess what? They require oil [emoji921] to operate! Nuke works day and night and does not add co2
