The future... Is it here already?

I'm in several discussions on the usefulness of a smart watch and whether it's a fad or niche item. It's got me wondering if what we actually have is the future right before us.

I can see in a few years you walk into the store and your device comes in 3 boxes. A Watch , a Google Glass like device for the main GUI, and the touchscreen device containing major hardware like the radios and processors as well as a main control for it all.

Now with the glasses you have a VR interface that can use the gyroscope and accelerometer in your watch as a virtual mouse. You'll have Bluetooth ear bud built into the glasses and mics on all 3 devices.

The interactions between all 3 working like this is not far off at all. I would think within 5 years this system could me in the mainstream if anyone put the effort into it.

We might not even need the touchscreen anymore, just a hub device in your pocket.

I see wearables as the future. With Google Glass doing well, smartwatches grabbing hold. Even one company is working on a projection device that'll duplicate your phone screen on your wrist. These are definitely interesting times for the mobile market.

Love to hear some other ideas for where you think things are going. Let's hear it!

I don't think you're far off in your thinking.

Where I hope you're wrong is with the glasses. Idk what I'd like in place of them, but I pay good money each year for contacts because I don't like wearing glasses. This is also a part of the reason I like to try to avoid going to 3D movies. To me, the glasses take away more enjoyment than they add.

Just my two cents. It's definitely a great time to be living in if you're a tech nerd like most of us here!

This may be an option for you then. The Cicret bracelet.

Technology have so many uses and applications. One of the areas we continue trying so hard to do is putting people in the realm of a movie. Imagine a hot movie like Avengers and with the combination of VR ad 3d sound (3D Audio....wow Android Forum at DroidForums.net you can place the viewer right in the middle of the action. Or take the tech we have now with wearables and smart phones that allow us to get out of the office more and maybe do work from a peaceful park bench vs a loud and crazy office. I like where tech is going and hope we allow tech to continue to evolve with the market dictating its destination, which can only be done by competition and ambition.

I'm not sold on the whole VR thing, but I love the idea of Google Glass working in tandem with my phone.

Load your grocery list into your phone, walk into the store, and Glass will highlight where all of your items are for you.

I like the idea of VR, I just don't see it being a "daily wear everywhere" type device. I'm not really a fan of 3D movies, it's too gimmicky IMO. This is why Google glass never really went anywhere with developers and 3D tv's never really caught on.
I DO however look forward to better integration between devices the way Apple has done over the years.

S5 tap'n

My Galaxy Gear has been useful during the winter as I have answered a few calls on it while my Note 4 was in an inaccessible pocket and I could just take the call by tapping my wrist.
It can be set to ring and vibrate or just to vibrate so I can just ignore it if it's not convenient to answer then call back later.

If I didn't have it now I'd feel that part of my phone was missing

When around water (liquid or frozen) I keep my phone in a Joto dry bag. Having the watch was helpful when out snow sledding over the last few days. The bag does allow touches to do their normal function but it does make the notifications too quiet/soft for me to notice when it's hanging on the lanyard around my neck.
