The ugly red dot...

Greetings,
I downloaded handcent and was very happy with the level of customization. However, I have a minor gripe. When I switched notification from the droid default to the handcent, I started getting this annoying red dot covering the text icon in the notification bar (see pic). There was a number in the dot which reflected how many new text messages were waiting for me to read. The red dot covers almost the entire icon, and is (in my opinion) aesthetically unpleasing. I don’t remember ever seeing this in the default droid notification icon. I’ve gone through the handcent settings several times, trying to find a way to disable this ugly red dot, but to no avail. Any help or advice on how to remove this ugly red dot? (sorry for blurry pic)

i could be wrong, but it looks like that's for the multiple updates. you should be able to clear your notifications for this to go away.

How will you ever know that you have new messages if you get rid of the notification?
I don't want to get rid of the notification. I like the choices and colors of icons you have to choose from in handcent. What I don't want is that ugly red dot covering the notification icon.

It goes away, along with the icon, when I clear the notification, or read the texts. I just don't want it showing up in the first place. There doesn't seem to be a setting on handcent to disable it. (droid default icon doesn't notify how may unread texts there are)

all it is showing you is that you have more than one new text message (or other handcent notification)... if it bothers you so much, use Home ++ Beta, and remove the notification bar altogether

Can anyone tell me if handcent will allow you to send multiple attachments... ie. a slideshow or a picture with a sound file

I love the notification bar.....but I hate that dot!

I also have handcent but on mine the red dot has the n
umber of new messages in it not under it. The only thing under it is the blue icon. Have you checked for an upgrade recently or maybe need to remove and reinstall

Please start a new thread for this question....thanx.

Its a simple question that can be answered easily by anyone who has handcent. It is not a question worthy of its own etire thread. So if the post bothers you don't read it. For those who help on the forum please continue to help one another like we all do.

I might reinstall as last resort. I understand function of the red dot....but why would they place it over the icon that notifies you of new texts? ....just doesn't make sense to me.....

the developer made a choice for the notification to show up like this.

I don't know what else to tell you : ) it is what it is. If it's that bothersome, I'd recommend uninstalling the app.

It's hard being a developer. They cannot please everyone because no matter how good something is somebody will always find fault with it.

My contention is, does the app work like it's supposed to and does it deliver all that it says it is capable of. If yes I won't complain. If it's not aesthetically pleasing that's on me. I'll either choose to use it or not.
