The Ultimate Droid 1.0.0 - Droid 1 Only

OK...this is a stupid question but I just want to be sure because I have read conflicting information.

I have previously rooted my phone but had to replace it..so I am considering doing it again..

Do I need to root first then install a ROM....other place I have read that they are 2 completely separate things and you don't need to root.

Is there a good guide on how to install.... I have seen the one guide on how to root.. but not sure how to install the ROM

Installation Instructions [SPRecovery]
1) Download the ROM of your choice
2) Rename to "update.zip" and place on the root of your SD Card
3) Reboot into SPRecovery
4) Select "install" from the SPRecovery menu
5) Select "allow update.zip"
6) Select "Install update.zip Depreciated"
7) Let it install your ROM
8) Press power button to return to main screen of SPRecovery
9) Select “reboot system now”
10) Let the ROM load
_____

Note: If the ROM is deodexed then the first boot will take a long time, every other reboot will go by fast
____

Installation Instructions [ClockWork]
1) Download the ROM of your choice and place somewhere on your SD Card
2) Reboot into ClockWork recovery
3) Select install update.zip
4) Select install zip from SD Card
5) Navigate to where you placed the ROM
6) Select "install"
7) Your ROM will be installed
8) Reboot from the main screen of ClockWork Recovery

Good luck and have fun!!:)

From those instructions above does that mean I do NOT have to root first?

You do have to root first.

Then install one of the recoveries (SPR or Clockwork). You can use Rom Manager to that.

Then use the recovery to MAKE A BACKUP!!!!!

Then install your rom.

After the rom has installed and successfully run for a little while, make another backup. In fact, make a new back up before and after significant changes to your phone.

I can post the link when I get home, but if you want just go to the droid labs forum on this site and the thread will be on the first page

I have that problem with YouTube, how would I fix that? I see people who did it by removing it complete with Root Explorer but I don't have that downloaded so is there another way to do it?

the new youtube app is cool, but not a deal breaker. Im going to just leave it alone.

Are the modified apps already dled or i have to go into UD settings?

I just prefer to be up-to-date. But they are already installed. The contact, mms, music, and browser apps are the modified apps. The GMail app is also modified but it isn't listed

Not unless you're changing back to stock apps or using any of the many other settings options

USB Connected

Just installed UD last night to try it out. Today, I went and hooked up to my laptop, which usually pops up to start usb debugging. Nothing. I have searched everything in the UD settings. I can't find anything that would enable this. Can anyone help please?
