The NVIDIA SHIELD tablet was first released about 2 years ago. It seemed to have been an overall success. NVIDIA rereleased the tablet later as the Tablet K1. Not to long ago we saw an FCC filing for an updated tablet by NVIDIA. It was assumed that this would be the next generation Tablet K1 which we could expect to release right about now.
A leak a while back mentioned some code for the device found in the NVIDIA Shield TV which made mention of codename Hawkeye which was attributed to the tablet. The specs for the tablet were also leaked. Hawkeye was to release with a Tegra X! SoC, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and 1920x1200 res display.
A dismissal request letter has been submitted to the FCC by NVIDIA's Compliance Engineering Manager who stated business reasons as the reason for the dismissal. There is still hope that a new Shield Portable may soon emerge. The filing for the portable device is still active at the FCC.
