Thinking about purchasing a Gnex. Quick question please.

After having several android devices, starting with OG droid, droid x etc, I decided to see how the other half lives. I purchased a iPhone 4s. Nice device but I cannot get past the utter lack of customization on the device especially coming from android where you can revamp the phone to your hearts content.

Well, one of my lines is eligible for an upgrade and would really like to return to google. The only phone I will consider is the Gnex. I do not want the blurs, senses, etc.. Vanilla android FTW.

In reading this forum I am a bit apprehensive considering all I have read regarding signal loss. Is everyone having this issue?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

I don't have the issue. I am actually really impressed. Coming from a thunderbolt with surround sound, I am somewhat disappointed with the sound quality but aside from that, I have NO complaints!

You will love it. Aside like others mention about speaker volume, it is awesome. You will love ICS. Hopefully 4.0.4 fixes volume. If not, I still wouldn't want any other phone.

Best phone I have used yet. I have had no signal problems at all. The signal issues happen on every phone and no one is really sure of the exact cause (area you live in, authentication on vzw's network etc..) It's for sure worth a try!

I had the razr thought I loved it until I had to have 4 replacements in 2 wks. They offered the Gnex and I have had absolutely no problems with it and I live in an area where reception is spotty and have had no problems. I wouldn't have any other phone. Especially anything from Motorola they don't stand behind their products and was always a loyal customer to Motorola but not anymore. Love my Gnex and will never look back. Hope this helps and good luck.

Reception has never been an issue for me. I work as a school inspector so I'm constantly in basements and every day I have to call out at a certain time. I always have signal in basements, anywhere.

IMHO I like it but I still long for the Rezound I traded it in for. I kind of liked Sense...I'm not much into rooting, ect. I have a completly stock unrooted unit. The signal stuff is driving me crazy! When I leave work or home where I have Wi-Fi it seems to take forever to find a mobile network. I replaced my SIM card, VZW guys say all is fine. My cubemate has a Maxx, for my unmodding needs, that's what I really want. I am looking on Craigslist for a trade for a RAZR Maxx. I might even consider paying the ETF and just selling it and buying a Maxx. Lets see if we get the radio update before I pull the trigger...

my 2 cents...

If you want Vanilla Android, then the Galaxy Nexus is your only real option on Verizon IMO. Signal issues or no.

The signal issues have not been universal even though they have been widespread. I know Nexus owners who returned the phone 2 or 3 times but did eventually get one without signal issues. So if you want Vanilla Android bad enough, it is possible to get around the signal issue. You just have to be persistent.

Personally, I am finding I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. I had vanilla Android on my Droid 1. HTC is allowing me to root now, so I am happy.

If your into custom only phone to get! There is I think three or four different radios out for this phone if you unlock and Root it, the shuts the limit!

I haven't lost signal yet could be due to living in midst of strong 4g signal but, my old thunderbolt and my wife's razr maxx keep 4g signal longer before switching to 3g then my nexus when leaving 4g area.

Thanks so much. I think I am going to pull the trigger and take my chances.

Don't forget there is a 2 week period for you to try it out. There is a restocking fee if you return it but that's better then being stuck with it for 2 years if you are not totally satisfied. I would still make sure to ask for specifics on this or read up on it to be sure.

I dont think the restocking fee applies if you are returning it for signal issues or whatever...I think it only applies if you are actually getting a different model phone. There is no charge for warranty returns I dont think.

I believe that is correct. That is what I was referring to actually.
