Thunderbolt vs. Bionic...what to do

well my sister just went from the bold to the droid pro and then got fed up with it so verizon upgraded her to the droid 2. No where in between switching did the price of anything change. From how i understand it the plan is for verizon's network but all blackberries have access to the bb network, however the data and everything comes from verizon.

Go pack! I used to have service problems in class as well. The new baseband that came with the new gingerbread leak seemed to help tremendously in terms of service in class. Unfortunately, I went back to stock amidst this p3droid drama. We'll see how it all works out.

I'm on a share plan, too, and here's how it works:

You pay for minutes once, and that covers every phone on the plan for talk minutes. The same may apply for text if your plan is a talk/text plan (mine is shared minutes only, no shared text).

Every other feature (insurance, data, text) is purchased at full price on a phone by phone basis. This means that if you have two phones that require a data plan, you are currently paying $30 per phone for data ($60/mo total). If you were to take your BB off your plan and replace it with the Thunderbolt, your data price on that phone would still be $30, and you would still pay $30 for the other phone's data. The difference would be that the $30 you pay for the Thunderbolt would include 3g and 4g, while the $30 you pay for the other phone would just be for 3g.

Bottom line: your price won't change, but you will have 4g on the Thunderbolt.

That makes things a bit clearer. Has anyone had a bb and switched to the thunderbolt, if so, whats your take on it.

Get the Thunderbolt. HTC sense is better and more reliable than Motoblur.
Thunderbolt is similar to the EVO but with a higher RAM 768 compared to 512 and better processor and screen. With the success of the Evo, I'll stick with my TB

even with your family plan, you are paying for a lump sum of time that you can use for your "calling". This means that you have say 1500 minutes per month between your 4 phones to use.

On top of this, each phone that you have that you use "data" on, such as your black berry and D2, (highly doubt you have data packages on the razor's) you pay an individual fee per phone for data which is $30 dollars a month. This fee as of right now will stay the same for your upgraded phone/contract meaning that when you upgrade, you will continue to pay the $30 dollars a month and the price will not go up. ( until they decide to possibly tier their data plans with the LTE but at that point you would already be in a contract with the $30/mth fee) This means for both 3g and 4g service as well.

I started off with the Blackberry Your before going Android (Samsung Omnia>Blackberry Tour>Motorola Droid>Motorola Droid X>HTC Thunderbolt), and there's no going back for me.

As you can tell, I've gone through a few smartphones, but until I got to the Android platform, I never felt any of my phones were truly "smart".

Blackberry's app support is laughable, boot times sucked and the UI was way behind the times. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Tour, but I truly saw what I was missing out on when I went Android.

The only thing that my Tour had over my Droids was battery life. Then again, the Tour wasn't a touch screen phone.

This means for both 3g and 4g service as well.

Only for the Thunderbolt, though. Even though the pricing is the same, he is still only paying for 3g on the D2. When he decides to upgrade the D2 to a 4g capable phone (provided he does so after tiered pricing goes into effect), he will have to take his chances on the tiered pricing for 3g and 4g access, while his Thunderbolt is locked into unlimited 3g and 4g for $30.

Yes, you are correct.

Thanks for all the info so far guys. It's been a big help. I'm still weary about the battery life. Has anyone that has the TB gone a full day (wake up->unplug phone->go through day->plug in when you go to bed?) without an extended battery? I know that by playing games and such it MURDERS your battery but I mean since you've calmed down from the fact of it being new and just gone through a typical day? For those that have not what kind of time frame are you looking at and what are you doing on the phone. also are you using 4g or do you have it cut off using the *#*#4636#*#* option?

Also, does anyone have any idea what prices are expected to be when they do finally go to tiered pricing? Is it expected to be more expensive or less?

Sorry, but no word on pricing.

As for going through an entire day: I've never had to. I have a charger at my desk, in my car and at home.

Yes, I did it yesterday, and will likely do it again today.

@beardface: what kind of usage do you do throughout the day and have you cut off 4g or not?
I live in Raleigh. We don't have 4G, yet.

Moderate use. I'm not on it constantly, but I do check emails and text throughout the day. I'll talk to my girlfriend on the phone every once in a while. Use it about the same as my Droid and I'm getting similar battery life.

I know we don't have 4g yet but I didn't know if you had turned your settings to CDMA auto (prl) or kept it standard. Thats about the same type of use id be doing. Do you not have your e-mails check automatically?
