+1 Sometimes restoring data can cause problems when going to a new ROM, a Factory Data Reset will usually take care of it so try that before reflashing.

no go on the reinstall. oh well at least i know HOB works. Thanks for the help.

I was thinking about downgrading to 244 using HOB to see if this is a issue with the 246 update or my buttons back light. is this a good idea? the only other thing i could think of would be to try a custom rom.
