Touchscreen responsiveness v iPod Touch...Whats the deal?

Yea this is getting awful fanboy. All he mentioned was the ipod was smoother. And it's always been true. even in tests, they still have the best touch screen. Saying..well it doesn't do this or that has nothing to do with the screen.

That being said...my droid transitions really well. I am happy with it.

saying the droid fails is wrong. They have sold 3 million of the things. blaming the phone is wrong, iphone has a phone. Thier software and hardware were engineered to be that seemless. Because it lacks in other departments. Apple has always banked on aesthetics to sell things. Iphone is no exception. Apple is very good at user interfacing.

So I have my Droid, and I have an iPod Touch. While comparing the two I notice the iPod's transitioning of windows is SO much smoother than Android.
Even while moving objects and flicking my finger left and right, it seems as if they're stuck to your finger in the iPod while there's just an ever so slight lag with Droid.

Why is this? Does it have to do anything with the compiler or a hardware issue? Could there be a fix?

Anyway :icon_eek:...lol one thing that I've found to increase the "smooth like butter" experience is to overclock the phone. It's really nice at any clockspeed over 600 :D

ooooh look, i can paste pictures too!!

Well on a fresh install its smoother than normal, but it still is not up to par with iPhone OS.

But my question is if this is based on Apple having a superior touch screen? (In this case would Droid Incredible have a better experience) Or is this based on pure coding issue?

ah gotta love fanboyz (on both sides of the fence, either apple or android). even when there is a major and obvious flaw in thier product of choice they rationalize and make excuses for why their phone is "zomg the pwn master of all phon3z"

bottom line, the iphone excels in the user interface department, and the droid fails. thats all there is to it. dont make excuses. don't rationalize. it's just a phone. you will be okay and your life will go one. i love my droid but i will not blindly praise everything about it. there are several shortcomings with this phone that i hope will be worked out in the next version. if not, i may be going with something else

See this is what I don't get. I don't see how it outright fails. Is at as smooth as the iPhone? No. Is it as bad as the Storm 1? No. iPhone is easily the smoothest experience out there and the Storm1 was easily the worst touchscreen experience every created. The droid's a lot closer to the iPhone on that scale than the Storm....

Sure sometimes switching screens in my aftermarket launcher (helix) is slightly choppy. Sure sometimes I hit an S instead of an A because the screen has precision issues. Sure sometimes the phone hiccups a little bit because I'm running a ton of things at once. I don't see how that makes it fail. Or are you just exaggerating as much as you say the "fanboys" out there do?

I had an iPhone, and I switched to a droid. The responsiveness of the screen is better on the iPhone, but the Droid's resolution is WAY better than the iPhone's.

I like both phones, but to me, the Droid is the winner. I like being a little different in the sea of iPhones. Every time I get out my phone people always ask to hold it and play with it (that's what she said). The software might not be as polished as the iPhone's, but I will give up that polish for some customization.

just my opinion. i am not happy at all with the droid's interface, never have been. and i've never even owned an iphone. look back at my old threads and this is one of the very first topics i posted on this forum, asking this same question.

for such an awesome device, you'd think they'd spend more time polishing the OS. even having my phone oc'd to 1ghz doesnt make it completely smooth. it's still choppy, it's still laggy. like when i close an app by pressing the home key..many times i come back to a blank screen, and my icons slow pop back up after a few seconds. things like this irritate me.

again, you dont have to buy in to what i'm saying, and you shouldnt have to. im just stating my opinions. i find it humorous though that people get so worked up over somebody else's opinion

I think I probably agree with your comment but I'd put it another way. ALL designs involve compromises. I'd like to have a battery that lasts for a year without recharging but I'm unwilling to carry a backpack with a 50 lb battery to attain that objective. I'd like to have a fourteen inch screen on my phone but I'd have to buy a whole new wardrobe to put it in my pocket.

And I'd like to have the buttery smoothness of the iPhone UI. But I'm not willing to give up unlimited multitasking to get it. Can I have both? Sure. But not with a new version of the "software." I'll need a faster processor and more memory. Think the Incredible comes with both simply to put a bullet point on a sales presentation? Think again.

The Droid doesn't "fail" in the UI department. It simply sacrifices optimum performance in one category for greater flexibility in another. So does the iPhone.

Don't take my word on it as I'm no expert. But to me it seems that both could be a factor. A better touch screen and better hardware optimization would probably help. I think it's the whole fragmentation issue in android and the fact that there are so many hardware manufacturers that maybe it's not as good as it could be? lol I dunno

Believe me I'm not worked up and, no offense, don't really care too much about what other people think of their phones. Just curious if you really though the Droid outright failed completely, or if you're being too harsh, or if I have really low standards (i don't).

But I'm sitting here bored at work and this is a good distraction ;p

i guess the word "fails" was too harsh haha.

The new HTC Incredible looks pretty smooth and fast in some of the youtube videos, I guess HTC did a better job then Motorola did for the droid.

resolution and multitasking. i think android was/is still mainly focused on the low res screen. as more and more 800x480 screens are released, i think there will be some improvement. android is just too fragrmented as well, has too many different specs to create "perfect" code. instead, the code has to be flexible to support all the specs, and that reduces performance.

I would disagree here. The base code from Google has to be generic enough to comprehend all hardware platforms. Nothing prevents HTC or Motorola from tuning to their specific hardware.

As for the Droid experience, I will take the occassional jutter and laginess over the locked down iPhone smoothness all day long. Also, don't forget Droid has over 2x the pixel density to deal with in these screen transitions.

Regarding the UI itself - I am not sure Google is spending all that much time or effort on it. I think they consider that something the manufacturer can do. Don't like the raw Google interface, check out Sense, MotoBlur, Touchwiz or some other soon to be seen UI.

I agree for the most part but didn't google forbid manufacturers from skinning "Google Experience" Phones? At least this was true while the droid launched. However; the Incredible is a "Google Experience" branded phone so maybe they changed their minds.
