Boot to recovery. Wipe data/cache. Install the Toro zip. Install gapps zip.

Yep, go back in to recovery and install the aokp zip, then the gapps zip. Dont reboot in between, just install them both and then reboot. Then set aside a lot of time to tweak your new rom!

Are you in stock recovery? Do you see the android with the exclamation point? You can't flash from there. You have to have a custom recovery. You flashed one before but didn't delete /system/recovery-from-boot.p

That overwrites your custom recovery each time. Fast boot your recovery of choice again. Flash aokp. Download a root file explorer from the play store and navigate to the file path above and delete that file.

You need to reinstall the custom recovery now.
