Trouble rooting my droid x

Hi, I am a new user but am interested in learning more about my phone. I have been trying to root my phone all evening so that I can gain access to apps and icons. I have been using the step by step method written out on a previous page (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-hacks/82584-droid-2-root-dx-ota-2-2-a.html), but after step 12, my cmd line does not go back to the Droid2Root folder. I remain in the adb shell, and in addition any adb command that I enter results in "permission denied". If I open a new terminal and open a new adb shell, I do not get the # symbol described in step 16. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Do you have an X or a D2? Because if you have an X you are in the wrong Forum. You may be using the wrong directions.
