[Tutorial]Sysctl and you, A guide to better preformance and battery life.

this is what i get, i dont really understand this, was just wondering if this is correct.

sysctl -a | grep vm
vm. overcommit_memory = 1
vm.panic_on_oom + 2
vm.oom_kill_allocating_task + 1
vm.oom_dump_tasks = 0
vm.overcommit_ratio + 50
vm.page-cluster + 3
vm.dirty_background_ratio = 70
vm.dirty_background_bytes = 0
vm.dirty_ratio = 90
vm.dirty_bytes = 0
vm.dirty_writeback_centisecs = 500
vm.dirty_expire_centisecs + 200
vm.nr_pdflush_threads = 0
vm.swappiness = 0
vm.lowmem_reserve_ratio = 32
vm.drop_caches = 0
vm.min_free_kbytes = 4096
vm.min_free_order_shift = 4
vm.percpu_pagelist_fraction = 0
vm.max_map_count = 65530
vm.laptop_mode = 0
vm.block_dump = 0
vm.vfs_cache_pressure = 1
vm.mmap_min_addr = 4096
vm.scan_unevictable_pages = 0

then 2 errors.
i used root explorer.
The reason i ask if this is correct, is read where somebody quadrant score went from 1600 to over 2000. mine has actually went down about 200 points?

My score did go up a lot. I'm not sure what all tweaks u applied but I applied all the ones on the link in the first post. I tweaked it to mirror what rubix has and I have definetly noticed a dif in performance. Phone is much smoother now. Will know more about the battery use tomorrow.

If the quad scores mean nothing, How do i know if its running any different or not? just wondering, not trying to be smart or anything, i really just dont know?
also on the imoseyon link, the first specs liberty vs rubix, should i go in and change all other settings to what rubix is? or just leave it at what this tutorial shows?
and lastly where my numbers (VM stuff) correct, just wanna make sure i did it right?

Sorry for all the newb questions, just trying to learn.
thanks!

Absolutely amazing work by all involved with these tweaks....I have 40% battery left after a full day of use starting 14 and a half hours ago...I never thought I would see the day I wouldn't have to charge my phone 2 to 3 times. I texted throughout the day, maybe an hour of talking over bluetooth, bluetooth connected over 80% of the time, played live hold em for 20 minutes, light web browsing, a full restore when a font load caused a bootloop plus much general scrolling about the phone. Oh yea I'm also overclocked to 12oo Mhz using the quickclock app and also undervolted at all 4 slots. I used only settings I could load without root explorer, just in the liberty menu and toolbox. Tyvm for this great work!!!!!

Sysctl has changed my phone dramatically for the better. Its noticeably faster and the battery is lasting a lot longer with heavy use of all kinds. Thank you for the heads up guys!

K I broke down and spent the $4. Yes im cheap. Put in the script and it looks just like expected. Do I keep the sysctl box in liberty settings checked or since I did it manually do I uncheck?

good question, i did liberty settings then root explorer, so far battery is exactly the same. do i need to undo toolbox settings?

Yeah I had the same battery life this morning. Killed it to 80 then charged back up and unchecked the box. At the gym now. Usually start at 100 and leave with 70 from pandora and texting. Been here for 30min and just hit 90 so im right on track for the normal 70 :(

Yeah just got out of the gym. Texted a little between sets and used pandora on 3g network. Battery is at 50% im not sure whether I got a jew phone or you suckers sounding like a commercial for sysctl are straight liars. If anything my battery life is worse off since 1.0 even with this superdupercode code sysctl. Unless im doing something wrong......which is usually the case. Neither toolbox nor root explorer worked. Quadrant is about 100 less than average. And who the f said quadrant means nothing? Are we serious? That things pretty much the standard speed test on android

Quadrant scores are viewed by most as useless. They fluctuate very frequently, and just using Googles Stagefright bumps up the Quadrant score 500+.

That's why you may see quadrant scores >2000 while running squidlys rom and

Usually when I have issues like your having, I download the rom, full wipe, reinstall and then redo these settings.

There's no harm in keeping it checked. As long as the init.d.conf is SYSCTL = 1
