Wow, some of you people complain too damn much. Unless you are interested in flashing a new build every day, you don't need to worry about any $2 fees. This is targeted to a very specific group of people, those who are literally "addicted" to ROM flashing. This likely would be of no interest to 99.5% of us. Lots of forums have VIP access subscriptions; why is it a bad thing when BlackDroid does it?
Perfectly said D12..BlackDroid Laces us w/a Ridiculously, fine, Flawless Rom and probably spent God knows how much time to make things work before releasing the roms. As you've mentioned, a lot of other sites have "VIP" access, which I actually joined before when I had my Storm 2. I can def tell you, Its not $2..Way more..Come on people, These Devs make our devices "Elite" and spend their own time doing that. IMHO, very small price to pay for so much more options and performance.

yea.. i wasnt trying to start a big discussion on money or anything. I run a website too and donations are always welcome.
i dont mind paying $2 a month for what the dev team is asking for. I think its fair. I was just trying to get people excited about a new rom and asking what was included with that $2 a month.

Anyone know when it will be released on his site. I donated last night and I keep checking the downloads section about every 10 mins. No update on the site or twitter.

right.. i pay my own fees and do my own design work for my websites. I run a fan website for the guy who does the voice of Optimus Prime... no pay pal donations on there. I bear the cost of hosting and my own time developing the site?i hate to say this..... but i have a hosting plan for my websites... cost me roughly $285 for 3 yrs... 99.99% uptime..... unlimited add on domains and unlimited bandwidth transfer....(Hosting24.com - First Class Web Hosting Services) more than likely anyone who has a website or does roms and has their own websites uses such a plan..... so for $2 to keep the ftp from crashing is pretty much a joke...I think the 2 bucks is for people who want access to the nightly builds on a monthly basis. Doubt the actual release will cost anything. If it does I would still have to give it a try. UD on original Droid was my favorite.
thats why we have a payal "donate" button... to support the developers..... i have done some custom boot animations for the DX and i havent charged anyone a fee to keep the FTP server from crashing... such a crock
Ok, and who pays that $285? It's not mandatory, but it helps him to keep the site up and a little extra just for doing what he does. I honestly don't think that more than 20 people will do the $2/month, but it's nice of them to do it. In the end, the guy is still paying for his website and doing all of the work.
Why? because I love doing it, and the Transformers and Optimus are something I grew up with.
Im also a musician and I give out my cd's on many occasions for free...to get my music out there. yes, I have it on iTunes and sell the physical cd's. But that doesnt stop me from giving my work away for free. My belief is that if people want to support the cause they can buy the cd or donate to some other websites I do. But when you expect a fee for your product... then you have become a "for profit" developer or business.
seriously..you all are getting stupid now. This ROM will be free! Did you all know that Fission does the same thing. People who donate to Fission get the releases first, get customizations to the ROM if they ask, and some other nice perks, and have apps for the ROM which you can buy and guess what...you get more free stuff after that..which is what this guy is doing. So stop being morons!!!!

I second the motion........... I donate to every developer's rom that I use and while I appreciate what they do out of kindness and passion for their craft, I certainly don't expect it. I'm very much looking forward to Ultimate Droid on my X but I have to say that the fission rom is no joke either.

Without access to the bootloader or some clever hackery to get a different kernel to run "roms" for the dx are glorified themes with maybe a few scripts and applications thrown in...
if there is a deposit of information to answer my question please point me to it

All I know is I used ultimate droid exclusively on my droid 1 and if the dx version is half as good ill be more than happy to give at least two bucks. Black droid does top notch work no question about it.

It's these same people who want outstanding fully functional apps and cry that the free version is "ad-supported". I guess it comes from the whole file-sharing mentality where they can download thousands of dollars worth of music or programs for free (also highly illegal as some unfortunate souls are now learning).
Do YOU work for free? If so, my lawn needs mowing. You expect to use the roms of these hard working developers while they make nothing at all?

Nightly Explained!!!
There is no charge for final release roms, even on the X! The nightly is just a daily build of what he has been working on for a release. So if you want to flash a rom everyday and be the first to test the rom features and see whats new, you can subscribed for $2 to Nightly Builds. Otherwise when the build is completed there will still be the free release of the final rom. The UDX rom in the nightly area is a technical preview only, a bunch of people kept asking so this very very alpha UDX was put up for users to see whats up and coming for the X. perk of being a subscriber. When it becomes a RC or Stable beta then there will be a free release. The rom is free and always will be free. but the daily builds are not. doing a lil extra to ensure the ftp and site stay up. any other question please just pm about it.
