Ive seen a few threads about how to unlock the bootloader and then rooting the Nexus.
Im not sure which one to follow.. Is there a specific one that contains the newest information? Or one that works vs one that seems to have more problems?
I would use Droid-Life's complete Galaxy Nexus guide, which I have linked below. If you follow directions carefully, most guides should work but the Droid-Life instructions will work perfectly as long as you take your time and follow instructions. Hope this helps.
Haven't had any experience with that so I wouldn't know. I prefer terminal commands. Seems to be just as easy and you actually know exactly what each step accomplishes. Just my opinion.
will either of these methods allow me to get the 4.04 update when it comes out?
if so, will I have to reunlock or reroot?
As of right now.. I dont plan on doing a lot of rom flaashing like I did on my d1.. but there are several things that seem to want root access. like volume+, for changing 'in call' settings and maybe a feaure of avast security (which i just installed today and not even really sure if I need a security app)
Download wugs root tool program. Makes it simple. Does the work for you. Literally just click a few buttons. And after you can get the 4.0.4 zip and flash it.
That's what I did. Although after I rooted and put 4.0.4 I needed to reroot with a different su.zip. if you need help pm me
