You get the just of it in the title. After updating the other morning my phone went to crap. My main concern is that it won't read my sd card. No music, no pics, nothing will come up. I've pulled the card, pulled the battery, nothing is working. Any ideas?

When you pulled the card, did you unmount it in settings first? And/or did it show up in the storage section of the settings menu?

Also, do you or anyone else have another device you can try the card in just to make sure that is the phone & not the card?

I'm assuming you're running stock software?

Some other issues after the most recent update have been fixed by doing a factory data reset.

That screen looks crazy. Something's definitely not right there.

From what I understand, KitKat broke the USB on-the-go function in earlier phones. I also understand that more recent updates that are coming are supposed to fix it, and clearly lollipop or Android 5.0 as it's known has it working again.

I don't know for sure whether Samsung was a part of that KitKat USB OTG failure or not, but I know for sure that it broke it on Motorola phones.

Good info, but op states the phone won't read the SD card.

I would transfer all your info from your SD card onto your computer if you have an adapter (which most microSD cards come with). After doing so, format the SD card with your phone and then transfer everything back.

Sometimes these updates can mess with something as simple as an SD card.

If that doesn't work, I'd go with a factory reset.

I know but the screen shot he posted shows him using USB OTG. Of this is a resident card or internal card and not a card being read with USB OTG then he's got an OS problem, I would guess.

Yeah I've never seen the screen like that before. For a minute I thought my monitor was lagging.

Try the easiest solutions first OP, and then if all else fails, a FDR should remedy it. You just accepted a major OS update and sometimes these little bugs happen. An FDR usually fixes it as it gives the phone a fresh start after a major OS update.

This has all confused the he'll out of me

Start with this plan first.

If that doesn't work, you'll need to do a factory reset, which will make your phone like it was out of the box, but including the update. This requires you to set everything up again, but generally fixes these kinds of bugs after an update. We can walk you through that if you need. It's very straight forward.
