Upgraded to ICS, battery life is terrible, is there a fix?

Ok that should be good for this. Unplug the phone from the PC, and power it off, completely.

Do you know how to boot into recovery?

umm, volume down and power off? maybe remind me lol, did it once, and forgot

With the phone completely OFF, press and hold all 3 buttons at the same time. Press them all 3 at the same time and hold them until the menu appears.

Then use the volume down button to go down to "Recovery" and then hit the power button to go to the next screen.

umm i went to recovery selected, then pressed power, didnt do anything, so pressed vol up, and it rebooted to a android guy opened up with a red triangle.

Perfect ... that's where you want to be. Now press both volume buttons to get into recovery.

Now when you get to the next menu, you should see "Update from SD Card" in the list ... use the volume down button to select it, then hit the power button to go to the next screen. This time I'm SURE it's the power button LOL

Rebooted and on as in the phone is back on? You need to shut it off completely and boot back into recovery, sorry, I'm trying to do it step by step.
