US Senate Defeats Bill That Would Have Overturned Net Neutrality

The Leftist-controlled Senate is very excited that the law remains, because it opens the door for the now over-bearing U.S. government to meddle with, and attempt to control Internet content. Before this law was passed, the Internet has been allowed to grow into a money-making machine for anyone who believes in the free flow of information and products. There has been no evidence offered to show that the users of the free Internet have been unfairly treated. This idiotic Leftist (Socialist) law was passed, because the Democrat-controlled Senate claimed that there may be some kind of problem in the future, and they believe that the world needs them to have unprecedented control over Internet activity in order to police it. (Really? Who believes that?)
This is the same type of trickery the Leftists have always used to take freedom away from man. They have in this case, demonized "big business" as if they are the enemy, to create a non-existent situation in the minds of the weak. This law serves no good purpose for users of the Internet. It simply opens the door for the U.S. government to lawfully limit, dictate, or cut-off Internet services, and seize domains for any reason. The law must be repealed as soon as possible, before they destroy our ability to freely grow and develop the Internet further. Get the facts on the law before embracing the Leftists' rhetoric.

 I have never seen a more uninformed post on this issue.

Net Neutrality laws simply preserve the way the internet used to work. Net Neutrality is what created the "money-making machine." There are no changes other than telling the ISP's to keep their hands off your internet. That is all it does. No "obama gonna get my net" crap.

You want to create the next big search engine? See how well that goes when Google is paying AT&T to slow your website down.

No evidence offered to show that users of the free internet have been unfairly treated?????? Yeah....ok....I guess Comcast Corp vs. FCC never happened.

By the way....I'm far from a "leftist" conspirator here.

This proposal was defeated, so the Internet remains free. I'm not sure why you are so angry, but I ask that we keep this from getting into a political discussion, I dont want feelings to get hurt, and foul language to arise from either side. I neither support nor abhor either side on the forums.

Didn't this issue come up in that HUGE case that Viacom brought against Google, and Youtube, and actually most of the world really? If I remember correctly they wanted the Government to forcibly remove content that they deamed stolen, which would have been violating this very issue. Correct me if I am wrong though.

Ok, I think there is a little misunderstanding between forum members on what Net Neutrality actually means. It means the Government CANNOT control anything you see on the internet. This means they cannot make a law banning Porn from the internet, nor can they be asked by a company such as Viacom to have something removed from the internet. The Internet is one of the last free realms in this world.

This Bill was to ALLOW the Government, or a company to restrict access to sites, as they see fit. Should this Bill, or any Bill like it be passed, it would allow for restrictions on the internet in one form or another.

The reason this is bad is because suppose Google buys out a major DSL company, and decides they want to squash out Ask.com as a competitor, they can then restrict access to ask.com, or ban it completely. This, in my opinion, is highly unethical, and shady business practices. It's equal to having a shop downtown, and since you dont want people to go to other stores, you cause an accident in front of their store, or lobby for construction of some type to take place in front of their store, thus rerouting most to all traffic to other places, mainly your store. Hopefully I have cleared things up for you guys.

Also, lets try to keep politics out of this

P.S. We should really be able to auto-merge posts...

It wasn't so much about removing the content, as it was that they wanted money from youtube and the names of the people that uploaded it.

A Leftist supporter will always set a false premise before attempting to make their case. ("I have never seen a more uninformed post on this issue.")

I stand by my statement regarding the current U.S. Senate, and anyone who supports it. If an Internet user is unhappy with service received by their current service provider (ATT, Comcast, etc.), they are free today to take their business elsewhere. Now that the government has their foot in the door, there is surely trouble coming our way regarding the Internet freedom we enjoy today. The Leftists always use "Big Business" as an excuse to take more control of our lives, (read some history on Communism).

There will always be those that will want more government in their lives, because they are weak and feel that a big government is there to help them make their way through life. History has proven over hundreds of years that the more a government is allowed to involve itself in merchant trade, the more corrupt and flawed trade becomes. Big government never solves problems (perceived in this case), they create them.

The information contained in my posts, is anything but uninformed.

Nothing......has.....changed. Net Neutrally laws are the NORM that the internet has ran on since it became public. There is no "Now that the government has their foot in the door..." nonsense. Net Neutrally is about PRESERVATION....not CHANGE. This bill would have changed it.

Do you not understand what Net Neutrality is? You are acting like this Bill got passed. I think you are misinformed sir. But please be polite when disagreeing with people.

You're use of the word "leftist" destroys your credibility. You are aware that Net Neutrality was the law of the land until 2006, when a court sortof struck it down. We are currently in net neutrality limbo, which is why few companies have decided to take advantage of the lack of regulation. The whole reason why the Internet was able to thrive was that there were no chokeholds on content by service providers. Without such protections, the internet will become like cable TV--only the big boys will be able to play, and innovation will be stifled. Without net neutrality, the Internet would have gone the way of compuserve or other proprietary networks. There would be no Yahoo, Google, or Android. All net neutrailty legislation does is enforce the status quo and prevent big business from monopolizing the net and throttling all our content. Do some research outside of right wing radio before you post.

BTW, you may have forgotten that the Internet is a government sponsored network. Oh dear, the government!!!!! Ayyyyeeee!!! Run away! Run away!!!

Jonas,

The rules for the so-called Net Neutrality Law are to take affect on November 20. The GOP's effort to stop it, was an honorable one. The name "Net Neutrality" represents a set of rules that will lead to anything but. The name sounds nice and sweet, and unassuming to those that tend to judge books by their covers. And that's just what the Leftists controlling the Senate, and Barack Obama want us to believe. (That it's a wonderful and nice law)

Net Neutrality, now how could anyone not be for that? It really sounds nice, what could possibly be wrong with it?

Net Neutrality is about giving the U.S. government control of the Internet. "The Internet Control Law" would be a much more appropriate name for it, but then had the Democrats (Leftists) honestly labeled it, it wouldn't be getting so much support from the unaware masses who are willing to support a law because it has a wonderful name. "Net Neutrality", what a nice name. (A con-artist never tells you he's a con-artist.)

Could you elaborate on that last bit? How it's a Government Sponsored Network. Not calling you out, I just was not aware of that.

I think this might help you...
Let me google that for you

Please do not treat me as an uninformed mass citizen or whatever clown you're trying to paint me as. I am a very informed member of society, and I am exceedingly aware of what this means seeing as I did an entire project on it for my debate class on whether we should keep it or not. I have done extensive research on it, and to be completely honest, you are the only one who has posted on here that seems to have a differing opinion on a FACT. You cannot argue the definition of something like you are trying to do, And if you really want to get technical what you are trying to do is use fallacies and slander to defame and contradict what people are saying, which to be curt, is frowned upon in the debate world. I realize this is not a formal debate, but you are trying to take an intelligent conversation about a current topic, and turn it into a name calling festival in which the winner is whoever says the most irrelevant thing and calls himself the victor. If you cannot be kind, curtious, and debate the topic with names such as "leftist" and "socialistic", then I suggest you find somewhere else to complain, as I for one will not welcome any thought or opinion of yours here.
