Using the Droid on WiFi w/ No Sim

Would using the droid on a Wifi network work, without a simcard installed? I am waiting on my droid to be deliverd, and anxiously reading pretty much every post I see about rooting, covers, everything with importance. I will probably root my droid within a few days of having it (jailbroke and unlocked iPhone 3GS within a couple days of release date). Flashed Firmware on my PSP n everything like that, so i'm not scared to flash or anything. Hopefully an unlock will be out soon so I can use the droid under AT&T. I am currently in Kuwait on deployment with the military. So by the time i get back, something should be out, if I can't find it myself after I root it. But anybody know about the wifi? Easy check would be go to wifi network with yours without a sim card in and then reply. Thank you.

ha, like i said. im new to it. never had a verizon type phone. thanks for the clarification.

EDIT: Just thought to myself, since I have no contract with AT&T...will i still be able to use the Droid on WiFi? It is already activated. I'm thinking probably not. Any details?

I see no reason why your droid WOULD NOT be able to connect to a WiFi network.

Im looking at the verizon store now, 199.99$ to buy it now, 2 yr contract and 104$ monthly payment. ATT has me at around $60 monthly w/ unlim data, text, and i have over 2000minutes saved up. $104 monthly is with only 450 talk/unlim text. I wonder if they'll get mad that as soon as I have them ship it, get it put on Military hold til I get back from overseas. Haha.
