Using "zoom in" on google web pages

I can double tap and zoom in on all web pages except google search results page. This greatly limits your accuracy on what you select. Any thoughts how you can overcome this.

at the moment it does not seem like you can on the "mobile" version....click on "classic" (bottom of the page) and on that version you can.
