{verizon} Is this allowed?

i think hes trying to get a deal on the Droid X by getting it with a 2 year plan, then selling it on ebay for full retail, therefore getting like $300 profit.

But unless he already has a Droid, he still has to shell out cash for a new phone.

But more importantly, do people really like the sizes of the new phones coming out? How does any guy carry around a phone that big, comfortably?

just get a new droid for 19.00 on a 2 yr plan i keep reading about.Take and buy 200.00 worth of goodies that you would have spent on either phone and just call it even.

i sell all my phones on ebay and i doubt you will get full retail especialy if you do the mail in rebate (cut the barcode off the box). you are going to break even at best i think. not worth it IMHO

Lol at this thread. Just get the Droid X, sell it for $550, trust me you'll get that easily. Then buy a Droid for like $200-300, and make $250-350 profit. And as far as the data plan goes, that does not matter. Say I bought my Droid with a 2 yr contract and no insurance. I drop it in a puddle, now I'm stuck with a brick and my old non-smart phone. I switch back to my old phone, and Verizon stops charging me for data. Simple as that.

I would like to comment on your 'obsolete' DroidX on the LTE network.

LTE is launching in select locations to a limited number of users at the end of the year, it's not a full launch. Even if it was a full launch, you can still use the 3G phones, they just aren't 4G compatible.

If the DroidX is obsolete, do you think all the money you drop on the Driod 1 and it's accessories is any less 'obsolete'? You are still spending all that money on a phone that isn't LTE/4G capable.

If you are having a concern about a non-LTE compatible phone, you are wasting your money on both options and should hold onto your upgrade.

Why didn't anyone else pick up on this?

I did the same thing with my droid for the DI. You have to get the X and activate it for your line first! Then you can sell it on ebay, take the cash, and buy your droid! The key is that you cannot change the features on the line itself (Ex: you have to keep data). But if your getting a Droid then your features will be the same!

jamr74 is right, activate it on your line the day you get it then deactivate it. I renewed my contract last Nov when the droid came out and got my kids new phones as well. I decided to give them the phones for Christmas and left them in the box. Between the time I purchased the phone and gave it to my daughter Verizon changed the terms on the phone I gave my daughter so it required a $10/month data plan, the rep on the phone said the best I could do was to activate on her line with the data plan, then deactivate it by switching to a different phone and delete the data plan then sell the new phone on Ebay, (FWIW, her phone is an LG Env touch)

I now have three different contract dates for the four phones on my share plan.

Lesson learned, your contract doesn't take effect until the new phone is activated on the line it was purchased for. I assume that if the phone is never activated on your line you'll be in breach of contract and will be subject to early termination fees.

ok...I'm still not getting this logic...I could see you making about 80 bucks max on this....here's why...
- $300 + Tax (~$15) to get the Droid X with a 2 year contract from Verizon
+ $100 Rebate on the Droid (so you are cutting the UPC lable off the box)
+ $550 selling the phone on Ebay
- $250 Buying a new droid
- Additional Ebay fees & Shipping, etc.

So -315+100+550-250-additional fees = < $80 profit and thats being generous...am I missing something? Where are you getting your "few hundred" profit? I wouldnt think the hassle would be worth the small gain you might make from going through all this work.

Basically you end up losing money doing that. You couldve just bought the droid and had the $150 difference in cash upfront.

To confirm that you cannot buy a phone with a NE2 discount and then score profit off it:

Last September, I purchased a new, unactivated Touch Pro 2 from eBay. When I received it, I was unable to activate it. After much discussion with VZW, the seller, and then 3-way conversations with both, it was revealed the seller had to pay the difference between retail and NE2 price if any lines other than those tied to his account wished to activate the phone. Were I a line on his account it would be no issue, but this safeguard is in place to prevent customers from using their discounts to score profit by selling the phones to different accounts.

So if you buy the DX at NE2 price, you'll have to pay full retail before you a different account can activate.

the simple work around for that is that he activates it first, then transfers it off his line.
