Ditto. The fact that I'm grandfathered into an unlimited plan is another reason I'm still with them. Sprint service in my area is pretty spotty.

im wondering if this is just a ploy to find out who has rooted phones or even those that download paid apps for free illegally...it wouldnt surprise me the whole

App and device feature usage seems fishy to me

All they really need to do is see who DIDN'T download the updates in a timely fashion. I did eventually d/l Froyo, months after it was pushed.

If you do not want us to use this information for these purposes, you can let us know by using one of the options described in the "Your Choices" section of this notice. This supplements our Privacy Policy.

I read that to mean that they ALREADY gather the information - and will continue to do so regardless - but are giving you the option to not have this information that they are already gathering used to do one of the following:

1. Specifically target ads to you on your phone
2. Use the information in some kind of marketing or business report.

So you can opt out - but don't be lulled into thinking Big Red will NOT TRACK YOUR EVERY MOVE.....

exactly. Digital age means being tracked everywhere. Verizon can target all the ads to me they want.... I'm rooted and I block ads. I think it's utter horse crap that you BUY a phone, PAY for service, and are force fed crap ads on every app you use so Verizon can make yet even more money on advertising. Maybe the end user should get paid for the ads instead.

There's the first problem - you don't BUY a phone - you basically RENT a phone since they subsidize the hell out of them and encourage you to upgrade and renew your contract every 2 years.
I have no problem with people putting ads in freeware to help make sure it's free and I support holding out "bonus" features too.

Let them track me. Then they will see that I am looking at other carrier's services, and more than likely to drop VZW.
