Sorry guys! I have been quite busy with the upcoming Christmas holiday, I do apologize!
I know your probally bombarded with questions but i bricked my droid. WHAT DO I DO???
-If you have time to help thanx you very much
Bricked it doing what? Does the phone respond at all? What shows up on the screen? If it isn't doing anything, you'd have to take it into Verizon and see if the store you go to will flash the phone for you to try and fix it.
Hey Viper,
I asked a question earlier in the thread about my screen not resuming at the end of calls so I can hit the end button or to enter number on the voice mail password. I took the phone to a Verizon store and had the tech look at it for me. It worked perfectly!!! But, I figured out why. There are large overhead spotlights at the tech counter. When she was playing with it she would start a call and hover her hand over the unit at like 6" away and the screen would go black. Then she would move it and the screen would light right back up like it is supposed to. The conclusion that I have come to is that the phone is just sensitive to light and when I have the problem the light must not be enough to activate the screen. I have to say that I love my phone so much and I told the tech I did not want a new one, just wanted an opinion of how to make it work better. I have not had any other issues like others here and I will just deal with this tiny quirk. I wanted to let you know that I had researched this more in case someone else has this question later.
Thanks again for all of your help. I read this thread daily and have learned more than I ever thought possible.
That seems to be a problem a few people are having and there is no adjustment for the light sensitivity, unfortunately. For some of the other phones on Verizon like the Samsung Rogue, you can calibrate the proximity sensor. Maybe someone will write an app to help improve this some day
Do you know why the phone disconnects during calls. it seems to hang up, or the mute or key pad get activitated while I am talking. I have cut people off many time. What is the fix?
You're probably bumping the buttons with your cheek. It happens to me too from time to time. The best thing you can do is try not to move the phone around much when you're talking. That seems to do it for me.
How do you delete your bookmarks?
Long press and hold on the bookmark you want to delete than "Delete bookmark".
I am on Verizon and been using the Palm OS for 9 years on a MAC. I want to switch to a droid but do not know how to get all my data in there. Most importantly Calendar and Contacts. I can re-enter my Memos if I have to.
I have been told that Verizon can get my contacts over when I buy the phone via infer red sync.
So what is the best way to get my data ported?
What do I sync with in the future?
Palm Desktop should be able to export your data into a variety of formats. You can export your Calendar into a .csv file and go to GMail.com and than Calendar and import that .csv file. Initiate a sync on your Droid so it downloads your Calendar - Home Screen > Menu > Settings > Account and Sync > Tap on the green sync icon next to your GMail account.
And yes, in the store we can move contacts over for you. But you could repeat a similar process above to get your contacts to the phone. Just export the contacts from Palm Desktop to a .vcf file and go to GMail.com and than Contacts and import the .vcf file. Perform steps above to sync Contacts.
Hey Viper, I know this is not tech related, but I was wondering if you know anything about the shirt/coupon distribution. Was the shirt and the coupons sent to random customers, or is there a reason behind it? Thanks
This would be nice to know
Not a clue whatsoever. I wish I had an answer for you. Sorry guys.
I have a question for the verizon tech. I have been on the phone numerous times with verizon tech's within the past few days trying to get my picture messaging to work. I am still unsuccessful. I'm in an extended network area, however; all my other data functions work flawlessly. I can receive pictures, but I can't send them. When I try to send a picture message a small red clock appears beside the picture and it just never does send the message. It is also important to note that other people in this area are on verizon and they can send picture messages just fine. Any advice would be most appreciated.
With your phone you had previously to the Droid, was it able to send MMS fine? What is your coverage like in that area? Have you tried booting in SM and testing?
Any news on the next sofware update? I really hope they fix some of the GPS glitches and email. Hotmail doesn't synch too well with the droid =/
Look toward the end of January before you see an update. That's as much as I can really say.
hello, anyone having problems with their alarm clock not going off? if there is another thread on this could someone tell me where to find it. i seen a small thread on it, but nothing on how to fix it. thanks all
I personally have not had a problem with my Alarm Clock nor have I had any customers with problems. Sorry to ask such basic questions, but you do make sure the check box is checked next to the alarm you want to go off and it's not like you accidentally put 6PM instead of 6AM, is it? Just have to ask since I don't have your phone in front of me to look at it
I connected my Droid to the computer for the first time, I opened up the USB screen and I noticed there a folder called (pretty weather google) So deleted it thinking it was junk, then an error meddage pops up saying I'm missing the file and it says "Loading Data" on the main screen constantly
Did I just delete some important folder?
I don't see that on my SD card. Try a battery pull and start up the phone. Anything? Try booting in SM if that didn't work. If you still can't get it to come up, I would try taking out the microSD card and booting, in case something is corrupt there and the phone is getting messed up when trying to boot. If none of that works, I would take it in to a store and have them look at it.
A verizon tech should be able to get this one right:
Will something like this:
Amzer Rubberized Black Snap on Crystal Hard Case For Motorola - Motorola Droid A855 - Fommy.com still fit on the Car Mount that verizon sells?
Seller says it only adds about 1/8" to the overall width/height.
Thanks for any advice.
I would still doubt that it would fit. I have yet to find any case that will still work in the car dock.
Hey everyone. I just registered for this site. Seems like a great place to be. I do Tech Support for Verizon in-store and know all of the phones pretty well. I am here to answer any questions you might have (let's try to keep it related to the Droid) that you might not have the answer to. Please keep in mind, I'm not a developer and I'm not going to be able to tell you that why such and such app isn't working on your phone. I'm here to answer questions related to Verizon and how the Droid works with Verizon's network and any tech related questions related to the Droid.
Feel free to ask whatever questions you have, and mods, if there is a better place for this thread, please feel free to move it
Thanks guys. I look forward to helping you.
A couple quick things...
1.) First and foremost, I'm here to
TROUBLESHOOT and provide answers to help you with your phone. If you are looking for leaked information about new phones or you want credits on your account, you've come to the wrong place. None of that will be happening here. I just need to make sure this is 100% clear.
2.) This seems like this is really catching on here, so I will keep this post up to date with common issues and fixes to things so you don't have to go through the entire thread for answers.
3.) Please understand, this is not my full-time job to sit here and wait for someone to post something so I can respond. I'm doing this to help you guys and answer questions.
4.) That being said, you might see that I don't get to answer questions for 12+ hours. Don't worry, I will answer them, but it will take some time to do so.
5.) On that note, for simple issues, it might be more beneficial for you to search and read through some threads instead of awaiting a response from me on a question about battery life, for example. There is no set answer, it would be best for you to search around, find a thread that is already created for that topic, and take a read through. I'm not saying I don't want to answer those questions, but you might get an answer faster that way and learn more in the process.
Common Tech Solutions and Tips
- Improve Call Audio Quality (Doesn't seem to work if you have anything to do with Alltel!)
- Dial ##7764726 (##PROGRAM) and act as if you were going to call that number.
- Enter 000000 for the SPC Password and then tap Verify
- Tap on "04 Vocode"
- Tap on EVRC-B than Apply
- The phone should automatically reset a few seconds afterward. If not, power cycle the phone
- Explanation - This changes how the phone compresses and decompressed the call audio which improves the quality.
- Safe Mode
- With the phone off, slide open the keyboard open
- Press and hold the Power+Menu button (on the keyboard)
- Continue to hold until the "Droid Eye" comes up and you feel the phone vibrate
- Phone should start up and say "Safe Mode" in the bottom left-hand corner
- Explanation - This starts only the core Android processes. This is best used for diagnosing if a 3rd party application is causing your phone to malfunction or if you cannot uninstall if when in regular mode.
- TRY THIS FIRST if you are having any problems with your phone acting up, especially with the built-in Android apps (example - Messaging app is crashing. Boot in Safe Mode. If app doesn't crash when doing what you were doing in regular mode, it's most likely going to be a 3rd party app with access to messaging that is causing a problem.)
- BE AWARE that after coming out of Safe Mode, 3rd party widgets might not display properly on the home screen. Press and hold on the widget and drag it down into the trash can, then readd it to the home screen. This will fix the "problem loading widget" error.
- Multiple Facebook Entries for a Contact
- From the Home Screen, go to Settings > Accounts and Sync
- Tap on your email assigned to your Facebook
- Tap on "Remove Account"
- Go back a menu and tap "Add Account"
- Select "Facebook" and set it up again
- Contacts No Longer in Contacts List
- Go to Contacts > Menu > Display Options.
- Tap on your GMail account to drop down that list
- Check everything in that list
- Back out and they should be in there
- Explanation - Sometimes after a SW update, the contacts groups will go back to default and "hide" some (or possibly all) of your contacts.
FAQ
- What was changed with the 2.0.1 Update?
- After the 2.0.1 update, the Browser lags! Why?? When will this be fixed?
- It has been suggested that what is slowing it down is that the phone is now keeping full image quality even while scrolling instead of lower image quality while scrolling and than full quality when not scrolling. At this time, Verizon hasn't issued a way to correct this. If this changes, I will update this.
- When will tethering be officially supported by Verizon?
- This fix is projected for sometime in Q1 '10. The hold up is that Access Manager isn't compatible with the Android phones yet and doesn't have the drivers built-in to get the phone to tether.
- When is new software coming out for the Droid??
- Because I value my job, this is not something that I can post on this site. You may have heard about a future update(s). I can't really say if that is correct or not. Information gets leaked, but it won't be from me.
- How about new Android phones??
- Again, I can't really talk about that. Truthfully, you will probably read about it online before many people at Verizon know.
I will continue to add to this as this thread grows. If you feel that anything should be added, please
PM me and I will take care of it.
.I have too seen and delt with people who have a "Green" chip on their sholder because THEIR not the one receiving the gratatude and attention for proving good, reliable and usefull info. You are doing just that in a Non arrogent way, being kind & humble, knowing what your talking about. Like I said, I've seen it in the reviews I do; (as a Product Evaluator at CNET.com). I obviously don't know the Android O/S as you do, but I do know from what you've said, your more then qualified and welcome to stick around. Now if this was a WinMo O/S discussion I would be more helpful. *
Thank you very much! And yes, you can handle WM
Not my forte. Don't get me wrong, I know it pretty well, but I'm more of an Android/BB (sorry, I said it :icon_eek
guy!
"While on a phone call, my droid seems to spontaneously mute. I know this because on my notification bar I see the mic with a x over it. When I see the phone options the mute button is not highlighted in green and to turn the mute off, I have to hit the button twice, once in effect muting it and seeing it lit in green then unmuting it so the person on the other end can hear me again. However most of the time the person hangs up before I can fix it thinking the call was dropped."
This happened before and after the official 2.01 update. I've tried master resets, battery pulls, and trying it without loading my extra apps, and it happens. Even happens on a second Droid that I got. What is the cause and fix for this?
There's a thread on howardforums talking about the same thing:
HowardForums: Your Mobile Phone Community & Resource - spontaneous muting without pushing mute is it
Thanks,
Brian
Very odd. I have had the phone mute on me, but it shows me in the Phone app that it is muted. It does sound like a bug, hopefully it will be fixed with the next update. I'm sorry and I wish I had more to tell you.
This reminds me of how Santa must feel with all the cards, letters and requests coming in that he has no time to read and still make toys..... I guess thats why he needs so many elves!
If Viper disappears after Christmas.. we will know!
I do encourage a little study and tracking before people ask a question though.... especailly just reading this thread alone says volumes..... I know its a bit long now, but most of the hot topics are discussed already... I think Ive learned more reading this thread then all the others put together.
Thanks Viper for your patience!
You have truly exhibited the Christmas spirit of giving!...
Maybe someone will discover you.....I know your not trolling for work, but I would hire you in a minute if I had a place for your skills and selfless giving!
Thanks alot! Don't worry, I'm still here, just been busy! Sorry guys!
Is there anyway to get phone unlocked once "too many" attempts made on whatever lock pattern you have set without hard reset? I've seen where pretty much everyone has not been able to enter email w/password with it working. Is this a google problem or software problem not allowing it. Anyway thks again viper for your time!
In theory, you are supposed to be able to enter your GMail username and password and it should let you back in. However, I have seen where it hasn't worked. In fact, it was an Eris and it wasn't getting a data connection for whatever reason after numerous battery pulls. No matter what you put in there, it failed even though the customer could log into GMail with the exact same credentials we were putting into the phone.
If you are having this problem too, I'm going to say it's a software issue. It's either a problem with the phone not recognizing your username/password or that the phones data connection goes dormant when the pattern lock is wrong numerous times. That's the only thing I could think of.
What is the problem that prevents Verizon Android phones from connecting to most IRC servers?
If you don't know, IRC is a way of chatting online, "Internet Relay Chat". It's totally benign, and it's possible to use Verizon's 3G to connect to many servers. They usually connect on ports 6660-6669, usually 6667, but it's not as simple as those ports being blocked. Often, it is possible to connect to servers over 6667 using Verizon's 3G. But many servers just time out, no matter which IRC app you use (such as andchat -
AndChat.net - IRC Client for Android). All the app developers for every app say that is must be something Verizon is doing with their network.
For instance, if you try to connect to irc.rizon.net, it will never work. Many other servers do work. Why and how are Verizon blocking these servers?
I don't use IRC, but I do know what it is
I do not have an answer for you on this. My best recommendation would be to look around online and see if anyone else has gotten this working. It's not like it would be a violation of the T&C's and Verizon is blocking it, it's (for all intents and purposes) just like an AIM app.
If you find nothing, you can try to call Tech Support, however, you will probably get the answer that we can't support 3rd party programs and you need to contact the developer.
I am planning on doing the steps to improve the call quality. Can you also list step by step how to put it back to the original settings if there is a problem with towers that aren't compatible? I know you said it was easy, but I would like to have it step by step written out in case I need to change it back. Thanks.
To get it back to default, do the exact same steps, just choose EVRC. That's what the phone was set to be out of the box. And make sure to press the Home Screen button afterward. You're device should reset after changing the Vocode settings anytime. If it didn't, it might not have taken the change.
