Verizon Unlimted Data

I believe once they roll out the 4G LTE network they might be removing the cap on data. This is just mere speculation because of what a few verizon folks have stated about the network.

As i think has been established their is a Data cap on all smarphone plans. It is capped at 5 GB for DATA. Your phone limits are set by whatever your contract says.

Both the personal and corporate plans are limited to 5 GB its just with the corporate plan you can connect to an exchange server. Knowing how many emails i get per month between web surfing, youtube, and my email i would easily exceed that cap. I found that the phone fully supports OWA so if you have that available to you for your work email it might be the better option.

Tethering is currently not allowed but is expected to be allowed in the second quarter of 2010 (even though you can technically do it now). Tethering will again be an extra cost and have a cap on it. How the cap will work i am not sure. It may be in addition to your current allowance but i am not sure.

As for 4G, i almost expect to be on my next phone by the time 4G is widely available. Verizon is just starting its testing on it meaning it will not be fully deployed for bare minimum a year but more like 2-3.

If you want to keep track of your data usage, NetCounter was recently updated to work on the Droid and seems to be perfect for keeping track of your usage.

It has *not* been established that there's a 5G cap on smartphone plans. There's a 5G cap on mobile broadband and the like, but unlimited data plans with smartphones and normal phones are not limited.

When Bishop makes a factually inaccurate statement such as that the $45 plan is REQUIRED for exchange then you can't worry about the rest of what he says.

Actually, exactly the opposite has been established by people on this forum who actually own smart phones with Verizon contracts.

This is what is frustrating about these kinds of forums. Speculation is presented as fact. Then facts are ignored. All because people have opinions they want to convince everyone else to believe, no matter what the facts.

I hope we can get like 1000 people to post their data usage. I am curious. I will on Dec. 7. I am at 24,533KB as of this posting. I an receiving email from two different email addresses and do a little facebooking. :motdroidhoriz:

I do fairly light email processing (receive 50, send 10) each day, Facebook data (150 friends), and Pandora streaming (30 minutes), several news and finance feeds, plus streaming the odd movie trailer or YouTube video.

Here is what my on-line account statement says today about my data usage, 520mb in 9 days:

Xris, of course I read the reply. It was incorrect, based on the legalease posted on the Verizon site, which I reproduced here verbatim. It really doesn't matter what any random Verizon rep tells you. What matters is their official policy, since it won't be the guy at the Verizon store cutting you off.

I went through this whole thing with Verizon Wireless BroadBand, some years back when that plan, too, said "unlimited".. nothing even in the fine print about any hard numbers. But it was the same kind of contract -- it's unlimited as long as you're following their restrictions, and if you pass a threshold (which wasn't spelled out then), you are considered to have violated the use agreement, so they boot you. I didn't personally get booted, but there were plenty on the forums who did.

You are, of course, perfectly free to ignore me and hope that 5GB is a "soft" limit, not a hard one. Several decades of experience as a Verizon customer suggest to me otherwise.

When i get home tonight, i will again look through ALL the paperwork set by verizon, if in fact i cannot find anything that supports people's hunches that it's set at 5GB, i will remove all the misinformation, and so for the later, if i find something support the fact that it is 5GB will remove all the posts that say it is unlimited. This is going to end now, too many people are confused, because people say they "KNOW" for a fact that it's set at 5GB. I will not only be looking through all the paperwork, i will be contacting verizon's headquarters to get their official statement.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what the Verizon officials say, it matters what your actual contract says.

Would you be kind enough to provide the links to where you saw this information? Because everything and everyone i've talked to in verizon and the verizon reps that are members on the forums here all confirm that the unlimited data plan for the PHONE ITSELF is unlimited. If you cannot, the posting will be removed.

If that doesn't work, it's easy enough to get there. Go to the VZW home page. Click on "plans". Select "Voice & Email Plans" from the drop-down menu. Now click on "PDA/Smartphone Nationwide Email". Scroll down to where it says "Calling Plan Information". The text I posted was copied from that longer section.

Hey, I have no problem at all if Verizon The Corporation wants to assure me that this plan is in fact completely and totally unlimited. Having been a Verizon customer for a long time, pervious on "unlimited" plans that were nothing of the kind, I would not believe any "people from Verizon"... they themselves don't necessarily know all the details.

If you do have contacts in-the-know at Verizon, I would love to see their response to this posted here.

Please consider not removing such posts at least as a testament to how (purposely?) confusing Verizon's rate plans are. Perhaps just a notice at the top of the thread that there may be information in this thread that is not confirmed to be correct, for the official verizon statement on the topic click here.... or something along those lines.
