Well Crap...Which Phone? Droid Bionic, Droid 2, iPhone?

Droid 1 is a keeper. Unfortunately it's not likely there will be a phone in the future that was actually designed to be so hackable. OG Droid running Project Elite 4.1 overclocked to 1.1 ghz rivals the best phones out there.

As above there will be a radically new ecosystem in 6 or 7 mos. Do not buy now.
how did you over-clock your Droid to 1.1 ghz? I have set cpu and it only goes to 800 mzh.

Flash a Kernal.

Also there is speculation about the bootloader not being locked on the Bionic, Moto said they were not sure at CES. The guy like my UD 2.5!!

Why, with magical fairy dust and a bit of horse sense, me laddie! T'was a long journey indeed, what with me dear Mum ill, and me Da run off to county Aintrim, I'll tell ya, it took a fair bit o doing. Rather not bore ya wthit, now then.

Can someone explain to me what a locked and unlocked bootloader is and whats the difference and which one I want? I keep hearing it referred to and I have no idea what it is.

My only concern with getting a 4G phone is that while my office is in NYC and my home is NJ, I do go to a lot of rural sites all over the country (and abroad - while its not been an issue so much as of now, not having worldwide service, it would be nice) and I need to have cell service there. VZW has been great when I'm in the middle of nowhere and no one else has service and I do. That's one thing I dont know if I'm willing to give up. However if there is no 4G and it drops down to 3G then that won't be an issue.

It will drop to 3G but you will still pay the 4G monthly charge, whatever that will be.

what phone would you upgrade to??

so i've come to a crossroads where I'm not sure what I want to upgrade to...i absolutely love the flexibility of the droid...everything just works with it, but I'm thinking i want something different now. my only problem is it seems the only two phones I'm interested in have 2 significant problems.

first the droid x....its old at this point and it's basically just a big OG droid without a keyboard and i wasn't really impressed with the speed or screen.

and then there's the fascinate...which i find to be an awesome phone given the tiny amount of time i played around with it. i ran quadrant and got a score of 1700~ on a stock store phone which blew my mind. and the phone was stupid fast, and of course the screen is absolutely amazing.

but here's my dilemma. the fascinate has such a small community that it would make me nervous to root(which looks to be a monumental goddam task to complete) should something go wrong i wouldn't have such an awesome group of people willing to help like i do here at bugless.

the x has a good community and plenty of followers and users but..it's still not that grand of a phone...

OOORRRRR-----

do i just wait for some of the new ones to come out in another month or so.

this is what bothers me about these phones, it seems like a rockin new phone comes out every few months and the communities following these phones get smaller and smaller and smaller and rooting is getting harder and harder but to me its a necessity.

your thoughts???

I'm in the same boat & I'm going to jump to the Droid X as soon as I find a good deal. I might miss my keyboard, but that huge screen will definitely make up for it. I don't really care about 4G since it drains the battery so quickly and isn't much faster in real-world tests.

that was another one of my points...I'm really into getting a bigger screen is the main thing otherwise I'd go with a D2/global, but I'm in it for screen real estate

Droid Bionic would get my vote. I'd say HTC Thunderbolt but they didn't include a dual core processor which is :icon_frown:

What looks promising is the LG Optimus 2x. Everything phone related LG has made in the past couple of years is supreme crap, so I am wondering if this will finally deliver or just be another LG paperweight.
