Shotguns are great close to rid-range firearms. The variety of Ammo makes it very versatile like a swiss army knife. It is the weapon I choose to hand my wife if needed while I grab my XD 45. It just all depends on what you are most comfortable with. When it all hits the fan because of Obama. I have a nice perimeter with my Rem. 700 then I can use my M-4 (effective range for me is 600 yards) then grab the shotgun, then the handguns and finally if needed my knife.
The beauty of shotguns are that you can find them cheap and reliable. like the mossberg or remington. noth tried and proven and easy to modify. in an Android sense they come with unlocked bootloaders and already rooted.

Strange no ones mentioned that a shotgun with buckshot is used in home defense so you don't worry about the bullet traveling through a wall and killing a family sleeping in need.....or leaving the house and shooting ourtside..

Probably the worst bit of false information in this thread. Even worse than the rock salt or dimes idea. Apparently buckshot is now made of stuff that will hit and kill things, but be stopped by drywall? What's it made out of, magic? People that don't understand physics and firearms make other firearm owners look bad when they post their "facts".
